Tenth inning Topps206

Seriously, man...

Somebody win the AL Central already.

Also: I love Skip Caray like a grandfather, and I know I'm about to bust on someone who is a thousand times more successful in his chosen field then I'll ever be in mine, but Chip Caray is a terrible, terrible announcer.

Game winning base hit!!! Caught... out at the plate...

I mean, come on... It's about telling the story of the game, not waiting for the opportunity to yell really loudly about something allegedly exciting. Quit watching ESPN, Chip, and listen to Vin Scully for a while.

That game winning base hit! caught...out at the plate...technique is awful. I wish we could turn off those types of announcers and flip a switch so the voice of classic announcers could be heard once again. It thoroughly affects the whole experience of the game.

I've got to agree about Caray. A couple of weekends ago he did a Red Sox/Yankees game and he was almost breathless as Joba pitched a 1-2-3 inning and ho-hummed his way through any Red Sox 1-2-3 inning. It looks like he may have gone to school at the Tim McCarver School of Broadcasting. His repertoire even included the necessary Jeter fawning. There's nothing that I hate more than national announcers openly rooting for one team over the other.

Chip is, without a doubt, my least favorite announcer who does not make up awful nicknames on ESPN. The guy just isn't intelligent. He says stupid stuff every game. And he doesn't know his baseball very well.

I don't want this to become a chip bashing session, he is, after all, the voice of my Braves.
But dayf my friend, I totally agree.

Damn I miss Skip.

Offy - I didn't want to bring up the T-word, but yeah, you're totally right. Chip has fallen into the new wave of utterly boring clueless announcers and it makes me sad on many levels.

Canuck - Actually Joe Simpson is as close to the Voice of the Braves as we got right now. He's good, but.. I dunno a little dry. Of course I have been spoiled by thirty years of Skip and Pete and Ernie so I'm not sure I'll ever be completely happy with a Braves announcer ever again. Don Sutton and Jim Powell do a really nice job on the radio broadcasts and it is one of my joys in life whenever Lemke gets to fill in every so often.

My mom is still wondering why the announcers were talking about the White Sox so much.

Oh one other thing, probably the most painful.

I WANT to like Chip Caray. Really really badly. He sounds like a nice guy and all, but I can't stand his announcing style. And he's not like that on the radio, he's a little looser and he tries to crack jokes. There's this edge though... like he's nervous as hell and trying not to make a mistake. Like he wants to go off like his dad did but is afraid of 50 suits sending him a nasty memo every time he says something a little off on the air.

Poor guy probably has tons of pressure trying to simultaneously live in the shadow of his dad and grandfather who were two of the great characters in the game while trying to fit into this horrible corporate broadcasting trend where any national play by play guy has to be a completely bland, boring and useless Joe Buck clone. Ugh. It hurts me. It's getting so I can't watch games on TV anymore. Like I said, I'm probably just spoiled.

Man, was he on his knees in front of the Twins' dugout with his head bobbing to and fro this game or what?

If I had a nickel for every time a game winning base hit was caught, I'd be... uh... broke. What a jackass.

By the way, I'm glad you like Jim Powell. He sure was good on the old Brewer radio broadcasts.

Jim Powell is very good. Smooth, steady and can match Don Sutton's witticisms very well. I hope he's around for a very long time.

It's going to be a very long month. If Caray wasn't enough, those George Lopez commercials are simply abysmal.
