Wow, that is pathetic. I looked through the other ganked images you posted, too. Seriously!? So, the Topps monopoly is good for creativity and originality? I never thought so, and this just proves my point. ugh.

Does this mean we can start mass-producing and releasing our custom cards? I mean, if the big boys can do it...

Lazy & pathetic. With all the millions Topps has they could take a picture themselves not copy internet photos.

Personally, as long as Topps pays for the rights to use the image, I don't mind it. It may be the easy/lazy way, but if it wasn't the obvious source of wikipedia, it would just be some other source that someone would find out about. After all, the company doesn't take all of their sports photos in house. They commission and/or pay photographers for images. At least I think they still do. If they're outright stealing it, that would get me flustered.

All of these pics are in the public domain so they don't have to pay a cent. If anything, the Ginterizing Topps did to the pictures might actually allow them to copyright the images with the football pebble textures as their own.

And to reiterate, this is not a GRAAR TOPPS post, this is a LOL TOPPS does the same thing I do when making cards! post.

I can come off as combative without intending to be. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was taking issue with the series of posts at all. Just adding my opinion.

My intention, geared towards those that say "lazy & pathetic", is pretty much to say why not take the easy way out? Someone will call them out eventually anyway and I'd personally not have them spend resources (aka $$) by taking actual pictures or commissioning, or even going out of the public domain, if it keeps Ginter costs out of high-end territory.

I would be surprised if they could copyright the image, though. I don't know photoshop, but I think the pebble effect is a texture filter (or combination) that come standard.
