BIRTHDAY BOOLSHEET BLASTER: PART 6 - 50 CENT REJECTS: M

THE M'S TAKE UP A PRETTY HUGE CHUNK IN THE 50 CENT BOX SO I CAN SEE WHY SOME SPACE NEEDED TO BE FREED UP. THERE'S A NICE MIX OF SHINY STUFF AND RETRO STUFF IN THIS PILE. LET'S SEE WHO GOT THE CHOP

GARRY MADDOX

GARY MATTHEWS

THESE TWO GUYS ALWAYS GET CONFUSED IN MY HEAD BECAUSE THEY BOTH PLAYED FOR THE PHILLIES AND THEY HAVE THE SAME NAME IF I TAKE OFF MY GLASSES. ONLY ONE-R GARY PLAYED FOR THE BRAVES THOUGH WHICH KINDA SUCKS BECAUSE TWO-RR GARRY WAS COOL. MY FLEER LEGENDS GAME IS PRETTY WEAK DUE TO BEING OBSESSED WITH THE UPPER DECK LEGENDS AND MINOR FLOOD MISHAPS SO IT'S GOOD TO PICK UP A COUPLE MORE EXAMPLES. IRONICALLY THESE 2006 GREATS OF THE GAME CARDS ARE FROM THE UPPER-DECK ERA FLEER LEGENDS SETS SO I GUESS I'M JUST ADDING MORE OF THOSE? LATE 00S TRADING CARDS ARE CONFUSING

KEVIN MITCHELL

THERE WERE A TON OF MITCHELL CARDS AS YOU CAN SEE WHICH IS A SHAME SINCE HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE GAME FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. A WORLD SERIES CHAMPION AND MVP AND NOW RELEGATED TO A JUNK BOX.  THERE WAS ALSO A 1986 FLEER UPDATE CARD IN HERE BUT THE JUXTOPOSITION OF THE 86 DONRUSS ROOKIES CARD WITH THE PILE OF 2020 RETRO CARDS AMUSED ME. ALSO SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW ON COMC THE TOPPS TRADED CARD IS A ROOKIE CARD BUT THE DONRUSS ROOKIES AND FLEER UPDATE CARD ARE ROOKIE YEAR CARDS. SHENANIGANS. ROOKIE CARDS ARE FAKE AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN

MANNY MOTA

I LOVE GETTING ACTION PACKED CARDS AND IT'S EXTRA GOOD TO GET ONE WHO GOT A CALL OUT IN THE MOVIE AIRPLANE. THIS ONE IS ANOTHER CARD CHECKED OFF MY WANTLIST AS WELL WHICH IS ALWAYS NICE

WIL MYERS

SHINY CHROME ROOKIE OF THE YEAR WINNER. I SEEM TO REMEMBER ONLINE CHATTER ABOUT HOW WIL WAS A BAD PLAYER THAT COST TOO MUCH MONEY BUT HIS STATS SEEM FINE? EVERYONE STINKS ONCE THEY GET PAID I GUESS

JESUS MONTERO

MOARER SHINYS. A DIE CUT HOLOFOIL INSERT CARD OF A CATCHER WHO PLAYED ONE FULL SEASON IN THE BIGS. NOT MUCH MORE TO SAY ABOUT THIS ONE

BILL MADLOCK

MAN, BILL WAS GOOD. LED THE LEAGUE IN BATTING FOUR TIMES! KEEP YOUR HALL OF FAME, THE HALL OF VERY GOOD PLAYERS ARE MUCH MORE INTERESTING FOR US BASEBALL SICKOS. I ALSO GOT TWO TOPPS PRISTINE CARDS IN THE BOX BUT NEEDED TO SHOW OFF THIS 2005 DONRUSS SIGNATURE INSERT SINCE ODDBALL SET INSERTS AREN'T SEEN OFTEN AND BECAUSE THIS IS SO 2005. TINY PICTURE OF THE PLAYER, GIGANTIC DEAD AREA WHERE A RELIC OR AUTO STICKER CAN GO, SILVER INK BECAUSE CLASSY, FOIL ACCENTS EVERYWHERE. IT'S SO DAMN UGLY BUT 2005 IS OBJECTIVELY BETTER THAN 2023 SO THE NOSTALGIA HIT HARD FOR ME

JACK MCDOWELL

I WAS A BOG FAN OF THE WHITE SOX IN THE EARLY NINETIES AND HAD A DECENT MCDOWELL COLLECTION GOING BACK THEN. THERE A GUY ONLINE WHO REALLY COLLECTS MCDOWELL CARDS AND ONE TIME HE PUT UP A WANT LIST AND I LOOKED AT IT FOOLISHLY THINKING I COULD HELP OUT AND IT WAS ALL SUPER SCARCE PARALLELS AND LOW SERIAL NUMBERS AND MY PLASTIC SHEETS FULL OF UPPER DECK AND FLEER ULTRA FELT VERY INADEQUATE. THIS CARD IS FROM 2013 PANINI USA BASEBALL CHAMPIONS AND I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S A BASE CARD OR AN INSERT. I DON'T CARE ENOUGH TO LOOK IT UP BUT IT IS A NICE TAKE ON A PATCH CARD. IT'S FUNNY, THIS CARD IS EVERY BIT AS UGLY AS THAT MADLOCK INSERT BUT IT IS UGLY IN A VERY SPECIFIC PANINI WAY JUST LIKE THE MADLOCK IS UGLY IN A VERY SPECIFIC DONRUSS WAY. NOW I'M WONDERING WHAT TYPICAL TOOPS, FLEER AND UPPER DECK UGLINESS IS. THERE IS NO SCORE UGLINESS, SCORE IS ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL AND PURE

RUDY MAY

YAY! ANOTHER TIMELESS TEAMS CARD. THIS ONE LOOKS LIKE IT WAS SITTING IN A CASE  UNDER FLUORESCENT LIGHTS FOR TWENTY YEARS BUT I GUESS IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THAT. RUDY'S ONE OF THOSE GREAT 70S GUYS WHO PLAYED FOREVER AND CAPPED OFF HIS CAREER WITH AN ERA TITLE IN 1980

JEFF MCNEIL

THIS BUM. I PICKED HIM UP IN MY FANTASY LEAGUE DRAFT BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WANTED HIM AND I GUESS HE COULD HELP MY AVERAGE STAT AND THEN HE SUCKED AND WAS CUT BY MAY. I BARELY HAVE ANY TOPPS INSERTS FROM THE PAST FIVE YEARS THOUGH SO IT'S NICE TO ADD ONE, EVEN IF IT WAS A REHASH

STEVEN MATZ

NO CLUE WHY THIS WAS IN THE 50 CENT BOX. HE'S NEVER BEEN A STAR AND THERE'S NO ROOKIE LOGO ON THIS CARD OR NOTHIN. I LOVE GINTER BUT I DON'T NEED THIS ONE

NICK MADRIGAL

FUTURE STAR! HE'LL BE 27 NEXT YEAR SO THE FUTURE BETTER COME QUICK. I INEXPLICABLY FOUND A BOBBLEHEAD OF THIS DUDE ON SALE AT GOODWILL LAST YEAR AND I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY. GOOD: I NEED THIS CARD SINCE I'VE BARELY BOUGHT ANY RECENT TOPPS. BAD: I GOT TWO BOWMAN CARDS OF HIM TOO

MITCH MORELAND

FIRST BOWMAN CARD, ANOTHER FUTURE STAR! BUT HIS FUTURE IS IN THE PAST. MITCH WAS AN ALL-STAR, WON A RING AND PLAYED IN THE LEAGUE FOR A DOZEN YEARS. HE'LL PROBABLY BE ON THE HALL OF FAME BALLOT IN A FEW YEARS. AND NOW HIS FIRST BOWMAN CARDS ARE IN THE DISCARD PILE. THINK ABOUT THAT THE NEXT TIME YOU'RE CONTEMPLATING DROPPING A HUNDO ON A COUPLE BOWMAN BLASTERS

Garry and Gary were also both Giants in the '75 set. I loved those two cards as a kid. Didn't have a clue I was supposed to hate them for their evil Giants ways.

I remember getting Maddox and Matthews confused when they were on the Phillies together. But ever since I discovered Maddox and I share a birthday... they're easy to tell apart.

P.S. Loved Madlock as a kid. I have and always will be a fan of high batting average hitters.
