BIRTHDAY BOOLSHEET BLASTER: PART 16 - 50 CENT REJECTS YANKEES

DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S A DEDICATED YANKEES SECTION IN THE FIFTY CENT BOX? THAT SECTION GOT CLEARED OUT TOO AND I WAS THE, UH, BENIFICIARY. APOLOGIES TO THE YANKEE HATERS, ESPECIALLY THE OLD-SCHOOL ONES

NO ONE CAN HATE DON BAYLOR THOUGH. I MEAN I GUESS YOU COULD, BUT WHY.

THESE ARE FROM 2004 UPPER DECK YANKEES CLASSICS, A SET I HAVE NO CARDS FROM SO THESE ARE ALL NEW TO ME. IT'S A DECENT COLLECTION OF CHARACTERS AT LEAST. THE MAIN REASON I HAVE NONE OF THESE CARDS AND NEVER REALLY CARED TO IS BECAUSE OF THESE:

THESE ARE 2003 UPPER DECK YANKEES SIGNATURE SERIES. A WHOLE ASS SET OF JUST YANKEES. TWO YEARS AFTER A WHOLE ASS SET OF JUST NEW YORK TEAMS. THIS SET WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY AWESOME THOUGH AS IT WAS ABSOLUTELY PACKED WITH GREAT AUTOGRAPH CARDS AND WAS FULL OF SIGNATURES OF GUYS WHO WERE WAY BETTER KNOWN ON OTHER TEAMS. LEW BURDETTE AND AL DOWNING HERE WERE INVOLVED IN PRETTY SIGNIFIGANT BRAVES MOMENTS, AND THIS SET IS WHERE I ULTIMATELY GOT MY BOBBY COX AUTOGRAPH

THE SET LOOKS BETTER, HAS A BETTER CHECKLIST AND BETTER AUTOGRAPHS THAN THE 2004 VERSION, WHICH LOOKS LIKE A CHEAP KNOCKOFF OF THIS SET WITH FEWER AUTOS AND UNWANTED PARALLELS. 2004 SEEMS TO BE AROUND THE TIME THE COOL STUFF OF THE EARLY 00'S STARTED TO DEVOLVE INTO MUCK ANYWAY AND TWO STRAIGHT YANKEES SETS WAS A BIT MUCH. I WOULD CONSIDER COLLECTING THIS 2003 VERSION. NOT INTERESTED AT ALL IN 2004

I WILL ALWAYS TAKE TOPPS PRISTINE CARDS THOUGH. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE TENTH BUCKY FUCKIN' IN THE BOX BUT I DON'T RECALL GETTING A GUIDRY YET. I DON'T EVEN COLLECT PRISTINE, I JUST LIKE TO HAZ THEM

2004 LEGENDARY CUTS I HAVE A WANTLIST FOR, BUT I HONESTLY DON'T NEED IT. THERE'S LIKE THREE OR FOUR OF THOSE OLD UD LEGENDS SETS I'D ACTUALLY LIKE TO FINISH. STUFF LIKE 1999 LEGENDS, 2001 70S, MAYBE ONE OF THE REALLY NICE SWEET SPOT CLASSIC SETS. THIS... EH, I'LL TAKE IT BUT I WON'T HUNT IT OUT. I HONESTLY DON'T REMEMBER IF I NEEDED LOU HERE OR NOT

AWWW YEAAAAH. I LOVE THESE 2020 TOPPS DECADES' BEST CARDS. I'VE ALREADY GOT A COUPLE IN THE BOX AND I WELCOME MORE, EVEN YANKEES. THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE INSERT SETS I WOULDN'T MIND COLLECTING, AT LEAST UNTIL I DISCOVERED THAT THE DAMN THING IS 100 CARDS IN SIZE. I'LL MERELY HOARD THEM FOR NOW

THE LAST YANKEE IN THE BATCH IS THIS BERNIE WILLIAMS ROOKIE (? I THINK) CARD IN AN ANCIENT PENNY SLEEVE THAT FEELS LIKE THE PLASTIC THAT IS WRAPPED AROUND NEW MATRESSES WHEN THEY ARE DELIVERED. IT'S EVEN GOT A 30 CENT PRICE TAG ON IT! I'M NOT SURE IF THIS WAS AN ACTUAL REJECT FROM THE FIFTY CENT BOX OR IF IT WAS SIMPLY IN A SLEEVE AND GOT MIXED IN SOMEHOW BUT IT'S AN INTERESTING END TO THE YANKEE PORTION OF THE FESTIVITIES. I CAN PROMISE THE NEXT BATCH WILL HAVE FEWER YANKEES, ALTHOUGH I HONESTLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS IN THERE AS THESE POSTS ARE TAKING WAY LONGER TO WRITE THAN I EXPECTED. IT WILL BE A SURPRISE TO US BOTH!

Nice to see a card of the recently departed Don Gullet. RIP.

Yes, that's a Bernie rookie.

Whole lot of YUCK there, except for a few exceptions, like Guidry, I can't dislike Guidry.

I was out of the hobby when Upper Deck released those Yankees sets. But since my return, I've come across some of those autographs. The checklist is pretty impressive.
