My conversation with Davy Jones

University of Georgia, early '90s, autograph session after a Real Live Brady Bunch performance.

Me: Hi.
Davy: Hello.
Me: I thought you were really cool in Head.
Davy: Thanks, that was a fun movie to make.
Yokel behind me in line: HEY LOOK THIS GUY JUST MET DAVY JONES
Me: thanks
Davy: Thanks for coming to the show!

Thanks Davy.

I think I understand where my aversion to autograph hunting comes from now.

No, I have no idea where that autograph is anymore.

I never got to meet Davy, but I did get to meet Micky and Peter before a show at Hampton Beach. Micky was showing some of his science art (which was pretty cool) before the show and was out there greeting fans who came to see it. Peter came out as well and they were both great with fans. No Davy though.

We just took my daughter to see The Monkees a few months back. Never did I think it would be one of their last shows. It's sad, I've been a Monkees fan my entire life. I don't like getting to this age where a lot of people who entertained me when I was younger are now passing away. IT's bad enough there's only one Golden Girl left, but now we're all short a Monkee as well.

I'm glad to see there is another person who appreciates the awesome film that is HEAD. Just a few of my favorite lines:

"Hey hey we are the Monkees, you know we aim to please. A manufactured image with no philosophies."

"The money's in, we're made of tin"

"Are you telling me that you don't see the connection between government and laughing at people?"

The Critic (Frank Zappa): That song was pretty white.
Davy: So am I; what can I tell you?

Davy: Wait! Don't move! I wanna forget you just as you are!

Voice in the desert: Quiet, isn't it, George Michael Dolenz? I SAID: QUIET, ISN'T IT, George Michael Dolenz! Psst!

Call me crazy, but I've always liked the Monkees better than the Beatles. I guess the tv show I watched constantly as a kid put them over the top in my mind.

I saw Davy, Peter, Mickey and Peter in concert back in 86? when they were doing that anniversary reunion tour. I still have the long sleeved tour t-shirt from the show. Would have been cool to see them years before when Mike was still playing/touring with them.

I too saw the Monkees reunion tour in 1986 - at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.

Opening acts were Herman's Hermits, Gary Puckett and Grass Roots.

Definitely agree with the sentiment that it's tough to see the people who entertained us as kids keep dying off.

One of my favorite Davy memories was his Brady Bunch cameo.

ZAPPA HAS A CAMEO!

Yeah, that's right, it all comes around to Frank Zappa.
