ONLINE MEGA BOX - PART 5

ONE PRODUCTIVE THING I GOT DONE THIS YEAR IS CATALOGUING A BUNCH OF MY 90S INSERT SETS. I LOVE 90S INSERTS AND THEY ARE USUALLY EASILY FOUND AND AFFORDABLE IF YOU KNOW WHICH ONES YOU NEED. NOW I DO FOR A DECENT CHUNK OF THEM. I USED THIS KNOWLEDGE TO WIPE OUT A BUNCH OF THE LEAF GOLD ROOKIES ON THE SITE

1992 LEAF PAT MAHOMES GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

THE REST OF THE CARDS WILL BE IN ORDER OF THE YEAR, BUT I CAN'T NOT LEAD OFF WITH A 'OMG PAT MAHOMES ROOKIE!!1' JOKE. THE ELDER MAHOMES DOESN'T HAVE AN MVP AWARD BUT WAS AN EFFECTIVE RELIEVER IN THE BIGS FOR OVER A DECADE WHICH ISN'T TOO SHABBY

1991 LEAF ANDUJAR CEDENO GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

I LIKE THE 91 VERSION OF GOLD LEAF ROOKIES BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHERS. THAT BIG CHONK OF GOLD FOIL AT THE BOTTOM JUST LOOKS GOOD TO ME. ANDUJAR WAS THE ONLY ONE I FOUND THAT I NEEDED BUT IT'S A NICE LOOKING CARD

1992 LEAF RICK TRLICEK GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

I HAD A LOT BETTER LUCK ON 92 GOLD ROOKIE INSERTS. THE FULL BLEED BORDERS ARE NICE BUT I'M NOT SURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE GOLD FOIL FRAMES. EXPECIALLY ON THIS CARD WHERE WE HAVE A NICE PICTURE OF A BALL BEING PITCHED AND IT'S HALF COVERED UP BY THE FOIL. I STILL AM UNSURE ON HOW TO PRONOUNCE THE LETTERS TRL ALL IN A ROW

1992 LEAF GARY DISARCINA GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

ANOTHER DUDE WHO PLAYED FOR OVER A DECADE IN THE BIGS, GARY WAS AN ANGEL LIFER AND EVEN MADE AN ALL STAR TEAM. YOU DON'T SEE GUYS PLAYING THEIR ENTIRE CAREERS FOR ONE TEAM MUCH ANYMORE. HERE'S ANOTHER REALLY GOOD PHOTO AWKWARDLY FRAMED. GARY'S BUTT JUST COULDN'T FIT

1992 LEAF JOHN DOHERTY GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

JOHN PITCHED A COUPLE STRONG SEASONS FOR THE TIGERS BUT ONLY LASTED UNTIL 1996. MORE GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY FROM LEAF HERE

1992 LEAF DAVE SILVESTRI GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

DAVE PLAYED FOR TEAM USA AND MANAGED TO HANG AROUND IN THE BIGS FOR EIGHT SEASONS WHICH IS PRETTY DANG GOOD

1992 LEAF MARK HUTTON GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

THEY CAN'T ALL BE GOOD PICTURES I GUESS. THE EXTREME CLOSE UP IS UNIQUE IN THE SET AT LEAST

1992 LEAF SALOMON TORRES GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

MY MAIN MEMORY OF SALOMON TORRES IS HIM MAKING HIS DEBUT WITH THE GIANTS IN THE GREAT DIVISION RACE IN 1993. HE WAS OUT OF THE LEAGUE IN 1998 BUT MADE A COMEBACK WITH THE PIRATES AND PITCHED UNTIL 2008

1992 LEAF TURK WENDELL GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

YEAAAAH TEETH BRUSHING GUY. I WILL ALWAYS THINK OF TURK AS A BRAVE BUT HE NEVER PITCHED AN INNING FOR ATLANTA. HE GOT US DAMON BERRYHILL AND MIKE BIELECKI THO

1992 LEAF ED MARTEL GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

I THINK THIS IS THE ONLY PLAYER IN THIS SET THAT DIDN'T ACTUALLY MAKE THE BIGS. ED'S CAREER GOT DERAILED BY INJURIES

1992 LEAF KENNY LOFTON GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

THE SECOND BEST PLAYER IN THE SET AFTER PEDRO MARTINEZ, KENNY LOFTON IS HALL OF FAME CALIBER BUT GOT SCREWED BY THE RIDICULOUSLY JAMMED 2013 BALLOT WHERE THE WRITERS DIDN'T VOTE FOR ANYONE. I PULLED THIS CARD FROM A PACK IN 1993 AND PLACED IT DOWN ON A COFFEE TABLE WHERE IT GOT WRECKED BY MOISTURE FROM A DRINK. I'M HAPPY TO GET AN UPGRADE ON MY WRINKLY INSERT

1992 LEAF BRET BOONE GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

BRET WAS A REALLY GOOD PLAYTER FOR A LONG TIME BUT I GUESS HE GOT UPSTAGED BY HIS YANKEE MANAGING BROTHER. I FORGOT HE PLAYERD FOR THE BRAVES FOR ONE SEASON OUT OF NOWHERE

1992 LEAF DAVID NIED GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

SPEAKING OF BRAVES, HERE'S DAVID NIED. THE FIRST PITCHER SACRIFICED TO THE ALTAR OF COORS FIELD

1993 LEAF TROY NEEL GOLD LEAF ROOKIES

THE LAST GOLD LEAF ROOKIE IS FROM THE 1993 SET. I ALREADY HAD A TON OF THESE FROM RIPPING PACKS IN 93 SO TROY WAS THE ONLY ONE I NEEDED. I COULD'VE SWORN THAT TROY NEEL PLAYED MORE THAN THREE SEASONS IN THE BIGS BUT NOPE, HE SPENT A LOT OF TIME OVERSEAS

NOW THAT THESE ARE ALL IN HAND I CAN SHOW OFF THE REAL GOODS

AWW YEAH COMPLETE SET. NOT QUITE A CARPET OF CARDS BUT IT'S A DESKTOP FULL. I'VE BEEN FINISHING A LOT OF SETS RECENTLY AND YOU'LL BE SEEING SOME MORE IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS

1993 GOLD LEAF ROOKIES ISN'T QUITE COMPLETED YET, BUT SERIES ONE IS SO WHY NOT SHOW IT OFF

UP NEXT: BACK TO THE RANDOM NONSENSE

1993 Leaf is a fantastic set, and the inserts are really sharp. I've got great memories of pulling long-forgotten Gold Rookies.

Kenny Lofton and David Nied were probably the two key cards for me to chase when those inserts came out.

Just picked up the Piazza from the 1993 set - nice cards.

Turk Wendell endeared himself to Cubs fans with his tooth brushing, licorice eating, foul line jumping antics haha. Congrats on the completed set!
