APRIL 2024 CARD SHOW PART 4: EVEN MORE DIME BOX

BACK TO THE DIME BOX PICKUPS, THIS POST IS NOT THE DISASTER THAT THE LAST POST WAS AND I DID NOT BUY ANY UNEXPECTED DOUBLES IN THIS BATCH. I LITERALLY DON'T NEED ANY OF THESE CARDS AT ALL, BUT THEY'RE NOT DOUBLES. THEY'RE ALL FUN THOUGH

ATLANTA BRAVES LEGEND BILLY HAMILTON IN A REDS UNI BUT A BRAVES BORDER. COLORED BORDERS ON ARCHIVES CARDS ARE USELESS BUT I LIKE BILLY AND I LOVE THE 1953 DESIGN AND IT'S A DECENT LOOKING CARD EVEN IF IT LOOKS LIKE SOME KID IN 1955 GOT A HOLD OF SOME OF HIS OLDER BROTHER'S CARDS AND TOOK A BLUE MARKER TO THEM. WHICH WOULD BE QUAINT ON AN ACTUAL 1953 CARD BUT REQUIRES SOME IMAGINATION ON A NEW CARD

ALSO SERIAL NUMBERED CARDS IN A DIME BOX ARE PRETTY COOL. IF 200 PEOPLE DECIDE THEY ABSOLUTELY MUST BUILD THE 2016 ARCHIVES BLUE BORDERED PARALLEL SET IMMEDIATELY, THIS SUCKER WILL MAKE ME A FORTUNE

SPEAKING OF SERIAL NUMBERED CARDS HERE'S A 2005-06 SPX SPXCITEMENT VETERANS INSERT OF RICHARD JEFFERSON NUMBERED TO 999. THIS INSERT WAS THE BOOBY PRIZE OF 05-06 SPX AS YOUR BIG HIT OF THE PACK WAS SOME DUDE INSTEAD OF A SPXCITEMENT ROOKIE OR AN AUTOGRAPH OR A RELIC CARD. AS MID-00S 'HIGH END' DESIGNS GO IT'S NOT ATROCIOUS AND RICHARD JEFFERSON WAS A HELL OF A PLAYER SO IT'S A PRETTY GREAT DIME BOX PICKUP

NOT A BIG FAN OF HADER, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT HE'S ON MY FANTASY TEAM BLOSING UP MY ERA WITH NO SAVES TO SHOW FOR IT. NOT A FAN OF CHROME EITHER, BUT REFRACTORS? I LOVES THEM SHITS. IF ANYONE LIKED JOSH HADER THIS CARD WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN THE LAST DREGS OF THE DIME BOX SO I APPRECIATE THE SHINY FALLING INTO MY LAP

HOORAY! I CARD I ACTUALLY NEED! FOR CERTAIN DEFINITIONS OF NEED! I WAS FULLY ON BOARD WITH THE HERITAGE/TOPPS206/ARCHIVES RETRO BOOM IN 2002-03 WHICH CAUSED MY BASKETBALL PURCHASES TO DROP PRECIPITOUSLY. ESPECIALLY FLEER TRADITION WHICH WAS A COMPLETE KNOCKOFF OF THE 1989-90 FLEER SET, A SET I ALREADY HAD. AS A RESULT I NEVER PULLED ONE OF THESE ROAD TO THE NBA INSERTS SO THIS IS A NEW-TO ME CARD. AND IT'S A CARD OF SHEED WHICH IS ALWAYS WELCOME

OK, SO I LIED, I THINK THIS CARD IS A DOUBLE AS I HAVE A FEW OF THESE ALREADY AND I'M PRETTY SURE CAMP IS ONE OF THEM. I'M NOT PASSING UP A HOSTESS CARD IN A DIME BOX THOUGH! THIS SET IS EXTRA ODDBALL SINCE IT WAS ONLY DISTRIBUTED IN THE SOUTH. I GOT TO OPEN A COUPLE PACKS OF IT OUT OF BOXES WHEN I WAS A KID AND IT'S NOT A SUPER EASY SET TO FIND, EVEN DOWN HERE

AMD LOOK AT THOSE GORGEOUS BLUE 1985 BACKS. 80S TOPPS BACKS WITH DIFFERENT COLORS THAN THE BASE CARDS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS IN LIFE

RANDOM METAL UNIVERSE CARD OUT OF NOWHERE. I MENTIONED EARLIER THAT THERE WERE SO MANY HERITAGE CARDS IN THE BOX THAT I MENTALLY DISCARDED THEM SINCE THERE WERE TOO MANY TO BUY BUT I ASSURE YOU IF THE BOX WAS FILLED WITH METAL CARDS I WOULD HAVE MADE AN OFFER FOR THE WHOLE BOX AND ENDED MY SHOW ON THE SPOT. THERE WAS ONLY THIS ONE LONELY CHRIS WARREN CARD THOUGH. I'M GLAD I FOUND IT BECAUSE DALLAS GETTING A GIANT TRAFFIC JAM AS THEIR REGIONAL THEMED BACKGROUND IS HILARIOUS. I DROVE THROUGH THAT MESS ON A BUSINESS TRIP ONCE AND IT'S APPROPRIATE. I KINDA WANT TO DO A DEEP DIVE ON THESE BACKGROUNDS AS THESE 1998 METAL CARDS KEEP CROSSING MY PATH AND EACH BACKGROUND IS WEIRDER THAN THE LAST

HERE'S THE ONE HERITAGE CARD THAT CAME HOME WITH ME. DUE TO AN EXCESS OF SHORT PRINTS I'VE SOURED ON THE BASE SET OTHER THAN A FEEBLE ATTEMPT AT SOME TEAM SETS BUT THE INSERTS STILL HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART. OR A PLACE IN MY FART AMIRIGHT

THE 2015 TOPPS FOOTBALL SET IS HISTORIC NOT ONLY FOR BEING THE LAST FLAGSHIP FOOTBALL SET BEFORE PANINI GOT THE EXCLUSIVE BUT ALSO FOR BEING THE FIRST TOPPS FLAGSHIP SET WHERE THEY COMBINED FULL BLEED BORDERS WITH A HORRIFICALLY OVERCOMPLICATED UGLY DESIGN. THIS IS FROM THE TOPP 60 SUBSET RANKING THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE NFL. MATT'S RANKING OF 51 IS ESPECIALLY FUNNY CONSIDERING WHAT HAPPENED IN SUPER BOWL LI. IN A STRANGE COINCIDENCE, THIS EXACT SAME CARD SHOWED UP ON BASEBALLCARDSTORE DOT CA WHEN I GOT HOME FROM THE SHOW

SEPARATED 1981 SCRATCH OFF PANELS HAVE LONG BEEN THE HIDDEN GEMS OF THE DIME BOX AND I'M GLAD I WAS ABLE TO FIND ONE LAST EXAMPLE. MICKEY RIVERS IS ONE OF THOSE REALLY GOOD PLAYERS NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANYMORE. DUDE PLAYED FIFTEEN YEARS AND LED THE LEAGUE IN STEALS! WHO CARES HE WASN'T RICKEY HENDERSON, NO ONE IS. I'M ALSO JUST FINDING OUT NOW THAT MICKEY WAS DRAFTED BY THE BRAVES AND THEN TRADED TO THE ANGELS FOR HOYT WILHELM. STEALTH BRAVES LEGEND

LAST CARD IN THIS BATCH IS A 2010 TOPPS PRO DEBUT INSERT OF TODD FRAZIER. OF ALL THE CARD I DON'T NEED I PROBABLY DON'T NEED THIS ONE THE LEAST BUT IT'S A NEW-TO-ME INSERT SO MY MAGPIE BRAIN HAD TO GRAB IT. LIKE MICKEY, TODD IS ANOTHER REALLY GOOD PLAYER THAT IS PRETTY MUCH FORGOTTEN WHICH IS SAD SINCE HE ONLY RETIRED THIS DECADE

Had no knowledge of that Hostess Cakes set until now.

I was also going to say I had no idea there was a 1985 Hostess set. Now I'm wondering whether Baseball Hobby News never covered it, or I didn't learn everything they said quite as well as I thought.

I was lucky to stumbled upon the 85 Atlanta Braves Hostess set up here in Michigan at a shop paid $.25 for the whole team set I like the blue backs goes well with Red 1985 Gardner Milwaukee Brewers set & the 1985 Wendy's Detroit Tigers set & 1 of few sets that included Eddie Haas as the Braves skipper that is a forgotten manager of the Braves in the 80s. Lots of fans remember Chuck Tanner or Joe Torre as well the infamous same number in 1986 flagship Bobby Wine but ya don't hear much about Eddie's managerial status with the Braves plus back 1985 we have to remember that we would hear Ernie Johnson Sr. Skip Carey & recently retired broadcaster Charley Steiner on WTBS America's Team & the quiet stands at old Fulton County Municipal Stadium & hear Promos of the up coming Goodwill Games.
