Go read this guy until I stop sucking

I can't write worth a flip right now. Other people are writing things though so go check them out. I met this dude @grogg on Twitter and now we're internet pals or something and he's writing things! Here's stuff about Topps! So go read the writing. Because I no English much good no more. Oh wait, I need content. Have a super quickie sketch card based off another card. Can you tell what card this is?

As you can tell I don't Art no good no more neither.

I honestly have nothing better to post right now

Mainly because I'm spending all my time making masterworks of art like this:

And, you know, working, familying, sleeping (not so much of that one), drinking etc. instead of writing posts for the blog. So let us take this time to pimp a contest over at

Or something like that. He's having a contest and by advertising it I get more points which are immediately made less valuable by the fact that more entrants are diluting them. Still, I want a dang kitteh card so it's worth the risk.

No really, it's gonna be a while before I get my writing mojo back... might as well go win something.

The Stat Blog is Dead, Long Live the Stat Blog

Quick and dirty post because I'm swamped today and I have zero time right now.

The Baseball-Reference Blog is shutting down for some reason. Not entirely sure why you shut down a blog that's been running for 11 years, but Sean Forman has literally revolutionized how fans look up baseball stats so whatever he wants to do is probably the right decision.

Luckily for us, the writers of the blog have started up High Heat Stats, which picks up right where the B-R blog left off. Take a break from the cards (or cartoon ponies) and go check out some stats.

And follow the blog, for Pete's sake!

Atlanta_Chris on Talking Chop

There's been a lot of baseball card posts on the Braves blog Talking Chop lately. They've all been (obviously) about Braves cards and they've all been very well written. I finally decided to figure out who's been writing them and it turns out to be Chris Mays from Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz. Better known as the guy who grabs the Braves in every group break 14 seconds after they are posted. His post on 5 Brian McCann cards to get is brilliant and I definitely recommend checking it out if you are a Big Mac fan. I second all five choices as fantastic McCann cards although I'd personally go with the blue refractor instead of the green. That's just how I roll. Keep up the good work, Chris!

Other People's Wantlists

I am doing well in my goal to have all my Topps wantlists sorted out by the end of the month, as you are no doubt aware from the blitz of lists I just posted. Please don't start sending me cards or trade offers right now, I'm just trying to get organized before the card show next month. Once I'm ready to start wheeling and dealing you'll know it.

If you are desperate to trade with someone, check out the new blog :

Got it. Got it. Need it.

There's a whole mess of blogs on there with their wantlists. Have at 'em.

Obak Contest at Drew's Cards

Here's a little contest you might enjoy while I'm here not posting the contents of my epic Obak Hot Box. I'll get to it eventually, go enter a contest in the meantime. Basically you can win a bunch of stuff out of Drew's box break. I love Obak like a beautiful woman so I'm not sure how you can beat that.

I Can Be Bribed

I have had an extraordinarily long day, so the pics from the game will have to wait until tomorrow (Or today depending on how long it takes me to write this post). I do have something to share with you, and that is that I am a greedy scoundrel who will post anything for the promise of cards. Ok, maybe not anything, but if you have a blog about cards and you want to give me swag just for a link, I'm not gonna say no. So everybody go an click on this link RIGHT NOW:

Apparently the title is a pun or something as there cannot be too many Grandersons. At least 2009 and earlier Grandersons. The 2010 version where he's forced to wear that icky stripey uniform, maybe there can be too many of those.

There are not too many of this blog, one is just right. Dennis AKA caljr3000 has only made 7 posts, but what grand and, er, sunny posts they are! There appears to be a lot of box breaking on the blog which is always nice. My broke ass can't even buy 30 dollars worth of groceries (ok, and a rack pack) at Wal-Mart before being shamed and shooed out the door for trying to used a maxed out card with my wife's name on it so a little box break vicariousness is good, no? So far on the blog we've learned that a whole lot has happened to Jumbo boxes in a short five years.

We've also learned Dennis is a shameless self-promoter which is great for a greedy scoundrel like myself. I only know for sure of one other person who linked the blog so if you are greedy too maybe you can get your mitts on a code. It couldn't hurt to try, and besides, the guy posts Simpsons clips so he can't be all bad. Even if he's a bit obsessed with Wolverines.

Andy hits the Big Time

Remember Andy from the 88 Topps Blog? He just got an article published in the New York Times. He also does some nice work on the Baseball-Reference.com blog. It's a treasure trove of nifty statistic tidbits, but don't worry if you're not a stathead, Andy has snuck a few baseball cards in there too. It's a nice way to kill a lazy Saturday, especially since I won't be posting again till late to night at the earliest, so check it out.

An Important Message

From Andy at Baseball-Reference.com:

The Baseball-Reference.com Blog has a new weekly feature covering baseball cards:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/category/card-of-the-week

Click on that link to call up the relevant posts.
We would like to feature some of the excellent card blogs out there. If you would like to participate, please email me at 88topps at Gmail dot com to direct me to one or two posts on your blog that you would like to have highlighted. It doesn't matter if they are recent or old, but they must contain scans of the front and back of a card that can be used on our blog (minimum size 400 pixels by 285 pixels.) If I choose to use your scans as the basis of a post, I will credit your blog by name and also include a writeup about (plus link to) your original source post. In return, I ask that on your blog you include either a link or a post for the Baseball-Reference.com blog located at baseball-reference.com/blog (not a link for just the main Baseball-Reference.com site.)

We currently get about 40,000 page views per week and would love to send some traffic your way. Please pick out a couple of your favorite posts and send them my way!
Thanks,
Andy

I checked it out, 's good. As good as this card what I pulled from my draft folder to attract attention to this post for people who clink on links in their RSS feed based on the thumbnail image.

No really, 's good. Check it out.

The Pimp Fades Into the Sunset

Ok, this is the last blog pimpin' post. I'm officially transfrerring the concept to something else now that I have just received a letter begging for pimpin' and calling himself a whore. The whole thing has gotten too creepy now and I need to figure out some other joke. I thought about taking on the persona of a music promoter, but some of them are far more sleazy than a pimp. Anyway, I'm going legit. I'll still be pimpin', it just won't be called pimpin'. I probably have the DEA monitoring this site already, I don't need Vice Squad after me too. Someone give me a good idea, willya?

Card Junkie

'Cause we junkies have to stick together. Even if they linked to my site with a big 'ol banner and didn't even bother to tell me so I could link them back. In case it isn't clear here is my policy on linking:

Anyone can link this site on their blog whenever and however they want at any time without permission and you can even be rude about it like linking the site to a picture of a donkey butt and I won't mind. It would be nice however, if you shot me an e-mail or posted a comment notifying me that your blog exists. I like reading your blog too.

Anyway stay tuned for a box rip of 1990 Fleer on the new Junkie's site. that man is really in the deep end of junk wax if he's brave enough to rip that.

1990 Upper Deck

In the spirit of 78 Topps Cards (where's my bribe!), here's another "entire set lovingly photographed and described in minute detail" blog. Just because the stuff is cheaper and more abundant than toilet paper doesn't mean it's a bad set! It just needs a little love is all.

Johngy's Beat

This blog has very little to do with baseball cards as far as I can tell, but it's damned entertaining. It's also a chance to point out that waaaay at the bottom of the blog I have links to a few non-card related blogs I like. Check 'em out, or don't. Won't worry me none.

That's all I have time for now, but I'll have more like this coming up tonight.

Pimpmasta D back in action

One of these days writing a card blog using joking references to substance addiction and despicable criminals who sell women's bodies for money is going to come back to really bite me in the ass hard. While I will never cop out and rename the blog Card Junk (at least not until I sell out and get a big, fat check from some corporate entity), if anyone can give me a good gag to promote other people's blogs while not associating myself with people like these I'd appreciate it. Or, if you prefer I can go whole hog, get my pimp name, have PunkRockPaint design a pimped out Junkie logo and go all in on the joke, consequences be damned. Since this might be the end of the pimpin', I'm going to go out with my favorite Frank Zappa song and the absolute best guitar solo of all time.

Aaaah, beautiful. Now on to the blogs.

Houston Card Collector

Box breaks, hi-res card pr0n and of course, Astros cards. Gotta love those team collectors. Again, I'm bewildered how it took me so long to find this blog.

At one point in time I wanted to do something like this with Card #13. In a particularly evil moment I thought I might do #666. I was always t0o lazy and unfocused to follow through though. THIS GUY FOLLOWED THROUGH. Every card is card #5. And not 1988 Donruss #5 and 2007 Topps #5 either. ALL KINDS OF CRAZY OLD ODDBALL NUMBER FIVES. This is one of those blogs where you have to puck your jaw off the floor after reading.

Cardboard Addict

Here's another one where I probably linked or maybe even posted the blog at some point in the past, but what the hell, here it is again for the first time. Old cards, new cards, Yaz cards, sets of cards, hockey cards, and an '87 Topps project that has thankfully allowed me to put a crazy idea I had on the back burner. I have to stick up for my fellow addicts, you know.

The Pursuit of '80s

This is that guy from England that trades with everybody. I didn't know he had a blog! I need to send this guy some stuff. Of course I need to send about two dozen other people some stuff too, but this guy's from England. The fact that he resides on the same island as Rik Mayall means he should probably get bumped up a few spots on the list. Now I have some new want lists to go over!

Dropped Third Strike

I don't know if I had this site open in a Firefox tab to pimp, or to inquire about a trade. There's a fantastic story about former Braves broadcaster Don Sutton, so maybe I'll do both.

vottoTRON

A subsidiary of OMGREDS.com, this is a blog wholly dedicated to Joey Votto. While I'm fairly neutral about Joey (Jurrjens for ROY, dammit!!!) the title vottoTRON is freaking superawesome. Just say it out loud. vottoTRON. vottoTRON vottoTRON vottoTRON! Teh shinies are nice too.

Ok, I think that's it for the week. More (pimpin'/not pimpin') next week, but with something new... Don't fear the new, I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

Oh bugger! I almost forgot

78 Topps Cards

Andy's follow up to 88 Topps Cards has launched. He zips back one decade and reviews the entire 1978 Topps card set. Cards 1-6 and 7-12 are already posted. I'm dead serious about printing up a Play Ball game set, so if anyone wants to play after the set is posted, just let me know.

Pimpin' the Blogs... Pimpin the Blogs...

I've got a whole bunch of blogs to pimp today. It's a combination of new stuff I've found, a couple of friends who took the plunge, some stuff I'm not sure if I've pimped before, and some people who begged for the pimpin'.

Before I do any pimpin' however, I need some help from my dear readers.

Last week, I found a cool blog I'd never seen before dedicated to someone's collection of cards with the number 5. Every card was number 5 - not serial numbered, mind you - just was number 5 in the set. There was a really slick Frank Robinson oddball card as the top post when I found it. I was lazy and waited to link it in my blogroll, and then...........

Computer crashed.

Blog go poof.

I can't find the damn thing again for nothin.

If anyone knows what blog this is I'm talking about please post the link in the comments. I want to read this thing and I promise I'll link right away from now on if I can just find this blog again. And now back to your regularly scheduled pimpin'.

Update: FOUND. Thanks to everyone who helped. This blog will take top spot in my next pimpin' post.

Waxaholic

Blogger Captain Canuck finally started up his own blog after getting his feet wet over at A Pack A Day. A fellow Braves fan, the man knows how to do a good rant. The poor guy is stuck up in the frozen north with very few card shops so check out his blog and maybe send him a LaRoche card or two to get thim through the cold, cold winter. Warning: He'll send you Hoops.

PunkRockPaint

This could be my favorite blog of all time, I just don't know it yet. Don't believe me? Just look at this. Now look at this. Oh yeah. This is the shiznit. He's also a Padres fan. I am SO happy to find a Padres fan blogging. Now I can pick out the Padres to give a good home while desperately looking for Royals, Indians and Dodgers to send off to other bloggers. PunkRockPaint also contributes to this blog:

Things Done To Cards

This is a blog I should really be writing for, but I'm having a hard enough time writing for my 12 other blogs. So what is it? It's a blog about cards like this. Cards like this. Cards like this. And, of course, homebrew cards like this. You like cards like that, don't you? Sure, we all do!

Padrographs; Abner to Zimmer

Autograph cards! Everyone loves autograph cards! And almost everyone loves the Padres! (seriously, how can you hate the fryar) AND THIS IS BOTH!

The Topps Archives

If you like strange oddball Topps weirdness (and I loooooves it) this is the blog for you. Each post is a mini history lesson about an obscure set, or maybe the wrappers, or just something fun. We need more of this stuff on the 'net.

Card Buzz

Have I linked this one before? I'm not sure. What the hey, I'll do it again. This 'under the radar' blog from an Angels fan has been around since 2004 (!!!) so give one of the old-timers a look. Bonus: Phillie Phanatic!

Tastelikedirt

I know I've had this linked for months, but I don't think I've pimped it yet. Epic A's fan, brilliant artist and lots and lots of A's cards. You know I love the team collectors.

Sports Card Blog

Two posts in, epic rant. This is one to keep an eye on.

I think I've linked these guys before, they just wanted some love from the ol' pimp daddy. Give 'em lots of hits.

30-year Old Cardboard

Loves the Fergies, loves the Billys, loves the Andres. And, of course, 30-year old cardboard. Also did something that I've been thinking about doing for over a year, but never got around to: Ticket Stubs! This is a regular read for me.

garvey cey russell lopes

what more is there to say besides
garvey
cey
russell
lopes

oh, give him some dodgers cards, i can say that too

Need More Morneau

great reviews, great rants, NO RSS FEED! Dude, you're killing me. Get a feed so I can put you over on the sidebar and I'll give you some Morneau cards. You'll get more hits too.
Update: NOW WITH FEED! I can put it over on the side now.

West Virginia Cards

I'm not sure Billy even asked to be pimped, but I'm doing it anyway. Besides, Sta-Puft Mashmallow Man!!! Oops, I mean, Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man!!!

Stop the presses!!!

While I was typing out this post I got one last pimpin' request! From Steveisjewish! Here's his brand new blog!

The Easy Life

Six posts in and this blog has already reached the pinnacle of the blogging craft. Keep up the good work, buddy.

More Quickie Pimpin'

Either there's been a flood of new blogs recently, or I've just been so out of it the past couple of months that I haven't noticed them. Here's a few I discovered this weekend, go check 'em out!

Nachos Grande - Mmmmmm.... Nachoooooos. I haven't looked through the archives yet, but there are nekkid people and Masterpieces on the front page. Gotta love nekked people masterpieces!

Project '62
- This one might be one of my new favorites. The man has an appreciation for Wally Moon and actually paid money for All Sport Plus! And I really, Really wish I had thought of this take on Luke Hochevar's UD Masterpieces card.

Free Andy LaRoche - I think I've known about this one for a while and just kept forgetting to link him. Dodger fan who appreciates the classics.

Paul's Random Stuff - Very random and autograph-heavy. My kinds of stuff even if he appreas to be a Mets fan. Can you guess which card in the title image is my favorite?

Dropped Third Strike - Fairly new on the scene, but already has some really sweet stuff on there already including a Donruss Threads rip.

Check 'em out and please send me a link if you have a blog! It's frustrating when I find a cool blog I've never seen before who has already linked to Cardbard Junkie.

The Return of the Blog Pimpin'

I haven't done one of these in a while and people refuse to believe the disclaimer above my blogroll that I'll link damn near anybody, so why not. Here's another Pimpin' Blogs segment here at The Junk. These are all blogs I found out about recently and would like you to go check out since I am suffering from writer's constipation and can't figure out what to post like them all so much. They should all be linked in the Daily Reading and Blogroll portions of the side bar, so go check' em out - you won't regret it.

Kimaloo Cards

Yankee fan, Allen & Ginter collector and estrogen-enhanced human. Gotta love that. I was the 286th hit on her blog when I first saw it, go out and giver her a thousand real quick.

Confessions of a Sports Junkie

This fellow Junkie have been around since 2006. His first post predates mine by three months so he is actually the Dean of the Junkies. There's some great stuff on there too like this recent post that attempts to recreate the 1978 tiebreaker game between the Red Sox and Yankees using the game on the back of '78 Topps cards. The real reason I'm finally pimpin' this blog is because he has also taken on this new blog:

1984 Topps Cards

In the spirit of 88 Topps Cards, CSD is posting every Topps card from 1984. He's starting with the Ralston-Purina set, and it looks like we're in for a good ride. Now speaking of blogs focusing on a single set of cards...

Andy's follow up to 88 Topps cards will be coming online very soon. Keep an eye out for it!

Cardboard Icons

This guy's been around since July, but I didn't know about it until Mario put him in the Heavenly 7. Realizing I've been missing out on this great blog was a terrible shock to me as he's featured cards of Andy Pafko! And Tom Tresh with a huge rookie cup! And the '58 Topps Mantle/Aaron combo card! WHY DOESN'T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THESE THINGS!?!

garvey cey russell lopes

dodger bliss. and when I say bliss, i really mean bliss. this is a great new blog, and i especially appreciate his steadfast refusal to capitalize. that's poetry right there, man.

Night Owl Cards

Another Dodger fan and fellow insomniac vampire. Good stuff in this blog including - what else - Night cards!

Padrographs

Autographs of Padres. Simple, eh?

If there's anyone out there I missed, or who aren't linked, or are linked and just want some pimpin', leave a message in the comments and I'll pimp out some more blogs in a post next week. In the meantime keep on postin'!

88 Topps blog Autograph contest

Somebody needs to guess this thing already.

Rules: look at this tiny little bit off of a 1988 Topps card and figure out what card it comes from. It's one of the cards posted on the site, so it shouldn't be this hard. I've guessed already so I'm out, so one of you eagle eyed readers go win yourself an autograph.

88 Score Blog

I'm pretty cranky right now and probably won't post much of anything today, but in the meantime check out a new blog I found from a link on one of the comments over at Wax Heaven:

1988 Score is about... 1988 Score. I love 1988 Score so it's made me slightly less aggravated than I was before I saw it. Especially after I saw a post with Murph, Gant and, um... Jamie Moyer. It pays to click on the homepage links of comments sometimes!

Don't read that, read this!

Yeah, so it might be midnight or later before I can post anything so here's a few blogs I have come across recently that you can read while I get crap done. Thank goodness for scheduled posts or A Pack A Day might be bare for a while.

West Virginia Cards Billy tried to suck up to me with the Chipper Jones Bobblehead card and it worked!

bdj610's Topps Baseball Card Blog all Topps, alllll riiiiiight! He apparently scooped everyone on the Allen & Ginter code thingy contest.

A Pudge is a Sandwich I don't even know what this is, it's about sports, lots of NBA, A's and Tigers stuff, regrettably some Cubs stuff too, but he posted the two crazy kids dancing so it's all right with me.

Tulo Trader the guy likes Troy Tulowitzki, what can I say?

Beginner's Wax it's always fun to see the brand new collectors out there before the hobby's institutional greed and avarice jades their soon to be cynical little hearts.

Capewood's Collections is also working on something interesting but it's still in the preliminary stages so I'll let him announce it. In the meantime he's got some good cards and music up on the blog.

Did you know The Writer's Journey was an artist?

A buncha links in leiu of actual writing

I think I'm almost over the war between me and my sinuses. At the very least, the pollen count here is under 12 billion for the first time in a month and my car is no longer yellow. I'm still nice and flippy on decongestants though so I'll let you read other people's stuff while I clear my head enough to stop watching Tay Zonday singing Never Gonna Give You Up on YouTube and start writing about cards again.

John's Old School Box Breaks

Just what it says. John rips boxes of cards from the 90's and shows off the glorious bounty of goodness. Dang I'd love to rip a box of EX-2001.

Baseball Legends

A collaboration of bloggers posting and voting on Baseball Legends. If I can get my act together I'll send in my application and an article this weekend.

Out of the Mill

I don't know if I linked to them before or not, because this blog is in my RSS feed but wasn't in my blogroll. Rich just bought a box of '91 Topps and I loves me anything with Chipper Rookies in it as you will soon see. (woooo... foreshadowing!)

Sports Card Blog Directory

That's right, a blog about card blogs. Good job by Mario for setting this up. One of my goals for this weekend is to finally get my post together for the site. I'm still not sure what to do for the picture yet though.

Shoebox Legends

I've linked to this blog before, but Shane just posted one of the top ten cards ever. Oh what a beautiful sight.

I'll sign off with a link to Big Dunc. There's nothing about cards on that site as far as I can see, but there is a tournament between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings! I can't be the only one that voted for Mace Windu, can I?

Another Blog to Pimp

The Man of Gell has jumped into the blogging fray after Exquisitegate broke at Beckett. Sportscards Uncensored is rude, grouchy, obnoxious, borderline blasphemous and generally antisocial. Just the kind of thing I like! Adam also makes political cracks which I've mostly been too chicken to do here. I think what I'm trying to say is SPORTSCARDS UNCENSORED HAS A HELLA LOTTA ADAM-MOJO!!!!!!!!!111one gO CHE- (SORRY caps lock off) Go check it out.

IF anyone else wants a plug or to get linked or is already linked and wants a plug or wants a plug and a link or is just lonely shoot me an e-mail. If you have already sent an e-mail, send it again. My inbox is a disaster right now. I've got stuff from February I need to respond to. Yeah, I'm a lazy bum and I suck, tell me something I don't know. I notice you keep reading though, huh? HUH? That's right, don't mess with the unhinged blogger man! I'll type at you!!!

Sorry that was the lack of caffeine talking. I'm gonna go Do the Dew and I'll be much more pleasant this evening I promise. Check out the blogs in the meantime ----->
