Joy of a Completed Set - Mars Attacks Heritage

Thanks to a trade with @eyedinh I recently finished up this nasty little set. Death, horror, doom and despair. Just hike the current state of the hobby AMIRITE? To celebrate I scanned the set in plastic pages poorly and plopped 'em in Picasa to show off to the World. By the World I mean the 3 people who still check this blog regularly and about 8000 loyal spammers in Southeast Asia. Hi guys!

However, when I saw the scans after they had uploaded I realized I put a horizontal set into pages vertically. A horizontal set with scattered vertically oriented cards. A horizontal set with scattered vertically oriented cards that also has a vertical insert set. Oh, and I didn't crop the scans so when you scroll really fast up and down the pages wiggle back and forth and make you seasick and then you see a disintegrated dog and a Martian with scrambled brains and you barf.

Just make the best of it and read the fronts right to left like Manga and then read the backs left to right (going down by column of course) and then when the backs flip to vertical, well...

There's numbers on every card. Y'all are smart, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Enjoy the gruesome.

Six Years

...I've been doing this. I don't know if I'll make seven. I don't know if I'll get out of bed tomorrow. Honestly this has been a wasted year and I've been some combination of wiped out, sick and depressed for the past four months now. I got a whole big box of cards to scan and post and I JUST DON WANNA DO IT. Maybe the new year will rejuvenate me, maybe it won't. Whatever the case I want to finish just one friggin thing this year if at all possible. Here's the last five cards I got from the May vintage show and never posted. Maybe the last cards from the last show I go to. Pissiness aside, here ya go.

Have a 1949 Bowman Jeff Heath card. Anything before 1950 is relatively difficult to find and this fills out one of the many holes in my vintage Braves team binder. I love the red and blue colors on this card but what is up with the smirk on this dude's face? It looks like he's getting a beej while posing for the photo or something.

1962 Topps Gaylord (snicker) Perry rookie card. While everyone's all in a tizzy about how every single born after this card was printed was a bunch of juiced up cheaters, Mr. Lord took used some different juice to get into the hall. *ptui* This HOF rookie cost me all of five bucks.

First draft of this was deleted for being over the top. The card speaks for itself. There's a reason this is my second-favorite card from the Mars Attacks set.

1971 Thurman Munson! One of the most iconic cards of all time! A card that intimidated me for years and prevented me from collecting the '71 Topps set! Got it for less than a blaster. Haven't bought much vintage since. Still afraid of iconic cards I can get for like, ten bucks online if I just put some effort into it. This is how far I've fallen collecting wise.

The big mamma jamma. Phil Niekro Rookie. And Phil Roof. Fun story: one of the first cards I ever owned was a 1971 Phil Roof that was way miscut that I got out of a junk box when I was about 8 or 9 for a penny. This is the last card I picked out from my last card show. Might be some symmetry there. Maybe not. It's the rookie card of my favorite player when I was a kid so if I do end up riding off into the sunset I'm at least ending on a high note.

Here's to 2013, it can't possibly suck as bad as 2012!

ELECTION NIGHT SPECIAL

Ok. Everyone's sick of politics. I was sick of politics in January. There's been non stop sniping mudslinging lying scratching spitting clawing partisan nonsense going on for as long as I can remember. And that's just the Mike Trout vs Miguel Cabrera MVP argument. The Presidential campaign has been even worse!

So a buncha people went out today to vote for their guy. Problem is 50% of the country thinks the other guy sucks. If Obama wins then the values of our country will go down the tubes. Socialist big government Kenyan Muslims will sent America straight into the Garbage can. And if Romney wins the corrupt lying racist whackjobs will take over the country. Not only that, but the warmongers will get their chance to Attack Iran! No matter who wins tonight, tomorrow all your Facebook feeds will be covered with ERMAHGERD TEH CUNTREE IZ DOOOOMED!

Yeah. It sucks. But let us not get down! The campaign is over! The election is here! The recounts and legal battles will only take a couple more months! THIS IS A HAPPY OCCASION! Let us celebrate with Trading cards! Every time a candidate wins a state, I'll post a card from one of my favorite sets ever!

When Obama wins a state I'll post a Garbage Pail Kid Card, since he's sunk America into the trash according to Fox News.

When Romney wins a state I'll post a Mars Attacks card because of all the death and destruction his Presidency will wreak upon the world according to Daily Kos.

If they tie, um, I guess I'll post this?

If you're thinking of sending me any, please don't. Scott is already going to drop a Martian bomb on me and I am literally the worst trader in the world right now. I haven't mailed anything since August and I've got one package on my desk that should have gone out a year ago.
Scott dropped his Mars Bomb and the list is now updated. I'm still a terrible slow trader though.

Or something like that. He's having a contest and by advertising it I get more points which are immediately made less valuable by the fact that more entrants are diluting them. Still, I want a dang kitteh card so it's worth the risk.

No really, it's gonna be a while before I get my writing mojo back... might as well go win something.

Aliens on my wall

I've got all lazy this weekend so you'll have to wait for your Topps Series 2 Cobb pack. While fuzing around the interwebs I stumbled across this:

Gigantic Mars Attacks cards you can stick on your walls. These wall graphics are described as being kind of like FatHeads but not. These are made out of the, um, optimal media solution for sticking and unsticking without getting stuck whatever that means. They look pretty damn cool at any rate and with 55 subjects for sale, it looks like the entire Mars Attacks checklist is available including the horrible ones, the heartwarming ones, and my personal favorite. You can even pony up for the complete set. Topps has apparently given their approval for this and are also doing Wacky Packages and baseball card wrappers. I was initially worried about taking money out of Woody Gelman's kids' mouths by promoting bootleg alien horror wallgraphics but it's all licensed and legit. 

The really BIG ones are a little pricey at over a hundred a pop, but you can get one sized to fit your laptop for 15 bucks. I must say I'm very tempted. Now how about a new Topps Archives combo Mars Attacks/Dinosaurs Attack set Topps?
