BLACK FRIDAY COMC PICKUPS - PART 1: OLD ART

IT'S A BRAND NEW YEAR. A FRESH SLATE. NOTHING DESPICABLE HAS HAPPENED YET OTHER THAN ALL THE LEFTOVER DESPICABLE FROM LAST YEAR. PLUS ALL THE BASELINE HORRIBLENESS WE GOT FROM 2020 MEANS THAT IT WILL BE DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE FOR 2021 TO POSSIBLY BE WORSE SO THINGS ARE AUTOMATICALLY LOOKING UP. EVEN IF SOME COMPLETELY OUT OF LEFT FIELD BULLSHIT HAPPENS LIKE AN ALIEN INVASION, SHIT'S SO BAD WE MIGHT JUST SAY FUCK IT AND HELP THE MARTIANS BLOW UP WASHINGTON. SHOULDA GIVEN US THE TWO GRAND STIMMY, MOTHERFUCKERS, EAT HOT DEATH RAY. SINCE THINGS ARE SO SHIT MAY AS WELL JUST DO LITTLE THINGS TO MAKE OUR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS A LITTLE BIT BETTER. I CAN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE AND Y'ALL SEEM TO LIKE MY NONSENSE SO HERE'S SOME BLOG POSTS. LET'S START WITH THE CRAP I BOUGHT OFF COMC DURING THE BLACK FRIDAY SALE

I'VE BEEN IN FULL PANIC CHEAPSKATE MODE FOR MONTHS IF NOT YEARS SO MY IDEA OF SPLURGING ON TRADING CARDS IS LIKELY NOT THE SAME AS YOUR IDEA, OR EVEN MY IDEA A FEW YEARS AGO. THE BUDGET WAS SET AT THE MYTHICAL 'ONLINE BLASTER' PRICE. AND THAT'S RETAIL PRICE TWENTY BUCKS, NOT EBAY PRICE SEVENTY BUCKS PLUS SHIPPING. I HADN'T MADE AN ORDER FROM COMC SINCE AROUND 2014 SO MY PRICING WAS A BIT OFF ON NEW CARDS AND I GOT SOME STICKER SHOCK LOOKING AROUND AT FIRST. NEW CARDS ARE EXPENSIVE! BASEBALL CARDS ARE HELLA EXPENSIVE! YA KNOW WHAT'S NOT EXPENSIVE? OLD-ASS BEAT UP NON-SPORTS CARDS! I MANAGED TO SCAVENGE TEN CARDS FOR JUST UNDER TWENTY BUCKS WITH SHIPPING AND THAT INCLUDES THE EXTRA FEE TO SHIP THE CARDS IMMEDIATELY INSTEAD OF NEXT MAY. HERE'S WHAT I GOT IN ORDER OF HOW THEY CAME OUT OF THE BUBBLE MAILER

I LIKE TO PAINT. I HAVEN'T SO MUCH AS LOOKED AT A PAINT BRUSH IN OVER THREE YEARS AND I'M PRETTY SURE ALL MY PAINTS ARE DRIED UP AND RUINED. WHILE I ENJOY PAINTING, I JUST HATE DOING ANYTHING THAT WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY. I ALSO LIKE WEIRD OLD NON-SPORTS CARDS FROM THE EIGHTTEEN HUNDREDS. HERE'S AN ITEM THAT INCLUDES BOTH INTERESTS! THE PAINTING AND THE CARD INTERESTS, NOT THE NEEDLESSLY MAKING MYSELF MISERABLE INTEREST. THIS IS FROM THE KINNEY BROTHERS NOVELTIES SET WHICH IS ONE OF THE WEIRDER TRADING CARD SETS OUT THERE. THIS ONE FEATURES A PRETTY LADY HIDING BEHIND SOME GRASS ON A BIG SQUARE PAINTER'S PALETTE. THE CARD IS VERY ATTACTIVE AND COLORFUL AND HAS THAT FOOTBALL PEBBLE TEXTURE THING THAT HAPPENS ON THESE OLD LITHOGRAPHS THAT I LOVE TO LOOK AT FOR SOME REASON. THERE WERE ACTUALLY TWO LADIES ON TWO DIFFERENT ART PALETTE CARDS TO CHOOSE FROM. THE OTHER ONE WAS OVAL IN SHAPE AND LOOKED REALLY GOOD BUT THIS ONE WAS CHEAPER SO I GOT IT

KINNEY BROS ARE ONE OF THE LESSER KNOWN SUPER VINTAGE CARD COMPANIES BUT THEY HAVE A LOT OF GREAT LOOKING UNIQUE NON-SPORTS SETS. LOTS OF DIE CUTS AND ARTISTIC SUBLECTS. THE N-228 NOVELTIES SET IS HUGE WITH OVER 250 SUBJECTS, SIX DIFFERENT TYPES AND CARDS THAT COME IN CIRCULAR, OVAL, DIE-CUT AND PLAIN OLD RECTANGLE SHAPES. THE SUBJECTS OF THE SET CONSIST MOSTLY OF PORTRAITS OF WOMEN, ODDBALL KNICK-KNACKS AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, AND THE TWO COMBINED IN SOME WAY. I AM NOT 100% CERTAIN BUT I THINK THIS IS A TYPE THREE CARD FROM THE 50 STYLES SET. THERE'S ALSO A 25 SUBJECT TYPE THREE SET AND TYP FOUR IS JUST TYPE THREE BUT EMBOSSED. SHIT'S COMPLICATED. I'M JUST A TOURIST IN THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY CARD COLLECTING GAME. I WILL NEVER HAVE A COMPLETE SET OF ANY OF THIS STUFF, HECK I WILL NEVER EVEN SEE JPG IMAGES OF 99% OF THIS STUFF. BUT I CAN CERTAINLY SNAG RANDOM-ASS CHEAP CARDS HERE AND THERE. IF IT'S GOT A COOL DESIGN AND A PRETTY LADY ON THE CARD WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?

FUN FACT: I HAVE ALL THE CARDS SCANNED AND UPLOADED AND READY TO WRITE THE POSTS AT MY PACE. NO MORE BLOG ANXIETY FOR ME! ESPECIALLY WHAN I DRINK

You already received your Black Friday COMC order? Nice. I guess COMC has resolved their shipping issues. I requested my COMC inventory be shipped back on August 1st and it didn't arrive until the 2nd week of December.

The Kinney Bros have been getting a lot of play as of late, I've seen them featured on the blogs, Twitter, and a website that I can't remember all in the last month. It's kind of nice!

@Fuji - i paid the extra 25 cents per card to ship faster and then still got it over a week before expected delivery somehow. felt kinda bad when everyone else on twitter got screwed over but the holiday post apocalypse. i guess since my order was so small and most of it was in the oddball boxes some card picker jumped at the easy job

@Jon - Kinney Bros cards are great but the only sports they did under that branding was horse racing so no one's swiped their brand yet for a retro set so people maybe don't know about them. even their Sweet Caporal Brand is just lumped up with T206
