Sketch Card #7 - Timmy the Giant

I need to start catching up on my sketch cards since I've got a month's worth in the draft folder. That isn't even counting the ones I've done in the past week or so. Here's a particularly terrifying one I sent to a Giants fan.

This was sent out to a Mr. Adam Smith with a whole flopton of Giants cards in exchange for some stickers I needed. Not that Adam Smith. Unless I traded with a ghost. And ghosts are usually Angels fans anyway. Adam finished off about a quarter of the album (After Chris Harris softened it up for him) so the duplicate Giants were well worth it.

Of course no good deed goes unpunished so I drew this horrorshow of a sketch card for him as well. Easy concept, Giant fan - Tim Lincecum - Timmy the Giant - Andre the Giant - has a posse. It doesn't hurt that I look at this sticker from Chris Harris damn near every day. Jefferson Burdick's posse is way better than Andre's. I should probably be executed for the execution though. I thought about doing Timmy in an OBEY style, but I didn't know how to do that so I just started drawing him normal-like. Then he started getting weirder and weirder looking. Weird is actually a good look for Tim, so I went with it. He had no cap to begin with but his hair looked really odd so I covered up my mistakes. Eventually I got to the point where I couldn't really make it any better or worse, so I started lettering. That actually turned out ok.

Well, on the front at least. Crappy lettering where I don't leave enough room is my trademark! Unless Shepard Fairey already has that one. Don't sue me, bro! 's just a joke!

I can't remember if Adam has a blog or not. If you're reading and have one let me know so I can linky. If you don't, start one up. I'm sure there's puh-lenty of bloggers who want to trade you their Giants cards. Find us some A's collectors while you're at it too.

Someone get Timmy a box of Goodwin, quick!

DAMMIT TIM - DO CARDS, NOT DRUGS

So, yeah. Tim Lincecum got totally busted smoking weed. Anyone surprised at all? Anyone not looking forward to the melodramatic hand wringing that will be on ESPN and every single sports talk station tomorrow? Here I was all geeked up about Hot Stove League and now I'm going to have to listen to a bunch of middle aged white men spluttering on about the children.

Legalize everything, regulate it, TAX it and kick all non-violent hippies on possession charges out of our tax funded prisons and make them get a job or live in momma's basement. Then there will be enough revenue generated to pay for two useless wars (and maybe start another one!), fully fund communist universal public option single payer socialized health care, and have enough left over to bail out another dozen banks who decided to play craps with the housing market. It's all about priorities folks. In this economy ya can't randomly bomb Afghani civilians, set up death panels to kill your Nana, ensure that crooked bank execs get their golden parachutes and throw stoners into PMITA prison all at the same time, something's gotta give.

Oh wait, I'm ranting, aren't I? Sorry 'bout that, I've been listening to Bill Hicks again. Someone seriously needs to straighten out Lincy though. Maybe a veteran on the Giants can take him under his wing. Timmy should stay at Barry Zito's place the rest of the offseason. That guy seems extemely stable and as solidly conservative as they come.

Timmy would've won the Cy Young Award... but he got hiiiiiigh...

(oh wait)

Seriously though, click on this link and read the comments. COMEDY GOLD.

A couple of relics from the Nennth Inning

A few weeks back The Nennth Inning had a "trade me Lincecum cards for hits" blowout contest/special/thingy. I snagged a Saltalamaccia autograph for a few Lincecum cards and was quite happy about it. After the contest was over there were some cards left over and I traded a couple more Tim Lincecum cards for what was left. I got three cards in the mail. These two and a third which I'll try to get on Auto-Matic tonight. I need to post on there at least once a month, right?

2007 Sweet Spot Albert Pujols Sweet Swatch

I'm not sure how Albert Pujols didn't get claimed, but I'm happy about it. This is one of the better looking jersey swatch designs I've seen. Good sized picture, the wood paneling and the silver stripe work well together and the swatch fits in the design. I can see why some people like the '07 Sweet Spot set, the hits are all pretty attractive.

2007 Ultimate Collection Matt Cain Ultimate Star Materials

This is the first of these I've seen as well. 2007 Ultimate is like a $200 a pack product right? And they have plain Matt Cain jerseys in them? The design isn't all that great. Way too much useless space on the bottom left corner. Do we really nead a quarter of the card to let people know that Matt is a pitcher? I've seen worse, but at something like $65 a card if you bought a pack this would drive me nuts. I like Matt Cain though and I'm waiting for him to win that Cy Young I know his arm has in it. For everyone out there who doesn't understand my bad attitude toward super high end stuff, here's exhibit A. If I pulled this card out of a pack of Ultra or Upper Deck or something I'd be happy about it. But in something that costs this much, sorry I'll just give that money to Bernie Madoff to invest instead.

I've been getting some e-mails about trading recently, and I'll admit I'm not overly attatched to either of these cards (I have a couple other Pujols jerseys I like better). However, I've got a large backlog of trade stuff I need to send out though so if you do make any offers do two things: Make sure "TRADE" is in the e-mail somewhere and be prepared to wait at least a week for a response. I'm starting to get back on track but trading is honestly very low on the priority list at the moment. Thanks, and thanks again Bailey!

Blog Pimpin' - This Just In

Three more blogs for National Pimping Blogs Day, before I update A Pack A Day and start scanning 50 more cards for The 792. If you didn't see your blog on here, leave a comment or shoot me an e-mail and I'll correct the situation in the future.

First up is Kevin from Dave and Adam's Card World blog, this is pretty neat blog packed full of card news. Why, just today they taught me what a cut card case is. No, they don't actually cut the cards, don't worry.

Card Weasel has a sparse but vigorous blog, Gem Mint Genius that shares the story of how Tim Lincecum ruined his life. He also became smitten with Allen & Ginter so it's all good.

Finally, I have a player collector's blog to share with you all, this one is for JT Snow. This blog is 1990's cheezy parallel heaven. I actually found out about this blog in a trade I'm working on, maybe you'll see some of my cards on there sometime in the future.

Update: Ask and ye shall receive. When I click on a blog and the first thing I see is a 1976 Father and Son card of Gus and Buddy Bell, that immediately tells me that this is a good blog. Plus he has a vintage Frank Demaree card, just like me! His is a '41 Play Ball and mine is a '38 Goudey, buy hey, it's still old! So check out baseballcardman, even if his Demaree card isn't quite as old as mine.
;)

I hope you enjoy the blogs and you found something new for your RSS feeds!
