White Sox Hostages

A few days before Christmas, a mysterious package arrived at Casa de Dayf. There's no explaining it, you just have to see for yourself.

Apparently a certain White Sox enthusiast forgot about the players movin on up to Chicago and sees the Braves/Sox trade as a heist. WE GAVE YOU LILLIBRIDGE, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?!? Ok, I'll play along, we stoled em. Now Javy is crying out for help in his masking tape prison. Ayuda! ¡Socorro! Raptar! See back for further instructions... Wait, who kidnapped who?!? Am I going to have to leave a 1915 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson inserted into a pack of 2008 Upper Deck Documentary at the base of the Picasso statue at Daley Plaza at 3:15 on Tuesday in order for the Braves to get their only offseason pickup so far??

Oh, open carefully. No ransom. Whew! Of course opening something wrapped with three rolls of masking tape is easier said than done. Steve wasn't fooling around on this one. Of course some of them have fragile arms sticking out. I'm assuming the Italian thing is a reference to A Christmas Story. Ya know, I completely missed the marathon this year? First I miss the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and now this. Jeez, I'm slack. I opened it as carefully as I could by hacking at it with an Xacto knife.

Yay! Our new arms! The only ones that want to sign with us! It's nice to have a couple more cards of these guys to start off the season with. You just know that Topps won't airbrush a Braves uni on Javy because they'll have their artists working overtime painting pinstripes. If a card is released by anyone with Boone Logan in a Braves uniform before June 2011, I'll be shocked.

I love articially low numbered Chipper Jones cards on classy looking cards with a black & white design. I sure won't miss Moments & Milestones next year though. I wish they would take Opening Day, UDX and Spectrum to the grave with them.

Ah, there's the fra-GEEL- ee card. A 1994 Fleer Extra Bases Tom Glavine insert card with part of the card hanging out of a toploader that also holds a Bee-You-Tee-Fool 1995 SP Greg Maddux. Kind of ironic that the'fragile arm belongs to a guy who never hit the DL until he was well into his 40s.

These two cards from Topps Magazine were so butt-ugly I had to share. Quick quiz: one of these designs was submitted to a "Design-A-Card" contest and came in second place. The other was apparently created by a professional. Can you guess which is which?

Another completely random card out of left field. This is an Exclusive Premium Trading Card of The Crow from Kitchen Sink Press. I'm a fan of their comics (and other stuff), so this is pretty cool. Wait... this couldn't be a subtle hint for me to quit being so emo about Furcal jilting the Braves, could it? Naaaaah. I've mostly got that out of my system anywa-THE DIRTY FINK USED US DAMMIT. Well, mostly.

The package also included my winnings from Steve's "take my extra White Sox cards" trivia contest. The funny thing about that was that due to Steve's random postings of the questions I always came in late on the first 15 questions. I got to the point where I almost posted "Since I can't manage to answer the questions fast enough, the answer to the next question is '1983'." I decided not to be obnoxious though and then the next question I got there first and the answer actually was 1983. Spooky... I won the 1983 and 1994 cards. Here they are, all listed out Steve Style.

There were a also a few off my want list and a mess 'o Braves too including a Goudey short print of Al Kaline and a Chipper Jones Pro Sigs card I've never seen before. Nice stuff Steve, Thanks again!

Thorzul Timelines

Ok, time to catch up on my trading posts. Here's one from Thorzul, he noticed I was into Timelines and offered me some from the blaster he got (and didn't like). I am sending him all the Brewers he needs from the set for a pile of short prints. Notice I said am as in, I haven't sent them yet. Yep, I'm slack. In my defense, I'm waiting to get all his giveaway cards together before sending them. Here's what he sent:

I got another stadium! This one is pretty cool too, there's fireworks at The Jake. I've got two thirds of them now and I'm closing in on the rest. I'll be getting 18 of them soon, I'll be happy if I knock out 5 more with my box.

Here's a '94 short print of Felipe Paulino. I only consider the SP designs SPs. Everything else is a subset as far as I'm concerned. I'm kinda sorta building the set, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with these short printed cards. They might be easy and cheap enough to get, but I'm not sure if I'll have the testicular fortitude to actually chase them all down. I think if I manage to get the base set, the '92 subset, the '95 die cuts and all thirty stadiums, that might sate my appetite for these cards. Or not... who can tell?

Here's all the rest of the short prints subset cards I got from Thorzul. There's some good stuffs in there... Ichiro, Papi, Jeets, Bruce. A Kosuke Fukudome die cut was in the package too, but I didn't scan it. I'm seriously sick of KoFu cards. I'll take 'em for a set, but I've pulled so damn many of them it's giving me heartburn.

And finally, there's a stealth jersey of Tim Hudson in there. #181/125. No jerseys were mentioned in the e-mail and now I'm scrambling for a Brewer relic. I think he wiped me out on good Brewers in that trade me anything deal though. I'll find something... oh yes I shall...

Thanks Thorzul, I'll try to have a package wating for you once you return from your holiday!

Two

Years.

Think I can leg it out to a triple?

Let's find out.

Happy Boxing Day

So, did y'all have a good Christmas? Get lots of goodies? Eat too much figgy pudding? Me too. I'm going to take this week before New Years to chill out, get organized and catch up on some stuff. Mail off some of those Christmas packages I promised. You'll be seeing a lot of posts featuring packages I got days and weeks ago but haven't gotten around to putting up on the blog yet. Other than that, I'm not going to make too much effort though. I'll get back on track in '09. Got some stuff planned.

You guys get any cards for Christmas? I see a few bloggers did. Just between you and me, I got myself a little Christmas present. I got the box from Dave and Adam's for the extra holiday goodies, but I feel bad about neglecting my local kickass retailer. I'll have to go make a trip to the brick 'n mortar store soon to make up for it. I just couldn't resist a box of Timelines with free shipping and extra swag, especially since a hobby box now costs just over the price of two blasters. I haven't done a full blown pack by pack box bust in a long time so I'm due for one. This will be the first one I've done of an Upper Deck Product if I'm not mistaken, so Topps should be sweating right now. Ah, who am I kidding. I'm just biding my time 'till Heritage and they know it.

To everybody out there, have an enjoyable holiday, get some rest and have some fun. Only 6 more days in this crummy year before we get to a shiny brand new one! For anyone out there who isn't completely fed up with Christmas Cheer, here's some fun holiday links I was going to post yesterday before I got lazy.

Christmas Games
Christmas Comics
Some Kickin' Christmas Tunes

And the thing I look forward to every year... The Venture Brothers Christmas Song.

Enjoy...

Oddly enough, I can't find a song titled '1987'. No problem, Stale Gum is better than Smashing Pumpkins anyway. If you're wondering why I'm posting random songs and cards at 2am the morning after Christmas, this is why:
