2010 Panini World Cup Sticker Wantlist

I had a hell of a time finding these buggers in 2010, everywhere seemed to have plenty of albums but no stickers. And I mean NO stickers. Even the free pack of stickers glued to the album was gone in every case. Thanks to perseverance and a sticker blowout at a local card shop I managed to get a good chunk completed. I have no idea where to even find these anymore but what the hell, let's post a wantlist.

Yippee! about 8* packs worth of stickers I needed out of a huge pile of discounted packs! Not too shabby. And it only took me about 12 hours to write this post!

Oh crikey, now I have to do a trade list....

JACKPOT!

So a few weeks ago I resolved to go to the card shop that had World Cup sticker packs and singles and to knock out as much of my album as I could. The day I was supposed to go my car died. Then the holiday hit and I had to deal with car stuff and had a bunch of errands to do and I never did get to the card shop to get stickers. 

UNTIL YESTERDAY

I finally got out there yesterday and had my album in hand. Who needs a wantlist? I walk into the store and don't see the box of World Cup singles. Hrm. So I do what any determined collector would do and star looking around for other stuff to spend my money on. They have a 50 cent box that is usually stocked full of goodies, so I checked that out first. To my surprise, there was a pile of Panini World Cup packets. The same ones that were going for a buck fiddy a throw during the Cup. I do the only sensible thing and grab them all.

Muahaha! packets are mine!!! It's a shame I couldn't pick through the singles though. I wonder what happened to them? After the 50 cent box I attacked the quarter box. There was enough Chrome in there to choke a mule. Even though prices have dropped through the floor (they were $60 a box for both at the store) plenty of packs were still being opened apparently. I looked through the baseball box and picked out a few things that had no business being in a quarter box (I'll save that for another post) and lo and behold, in the football quarter box were all the Panini singles. 

All the stickers were in penny sleeves organized by team. They were 10 cents a pop before, so I asked if they were 25 cents a sticker or per group. The proprietor stated they were 25 cents a group because they just wanted to blow them out the store. BLOW THEY DID:

Ha ha!!! Patience pays off! All I had to do was wait until the World Cup was so completely over that FIFA had already announced the host in 2022 and I end up with several hundred stickers for the album for about 13 bucks. Some call it procrastination, I call it biding my time. At any rate I shall be sticking like a madman over the next couple of days. 

If anyone out there still needs stickers for their album, leave a comment. Stale Gum and Waxaholic has first dibs, but I'll have a dupes list up early next week and I'm ready to blow my doubles out too....

Congrats to the 2010 World Cup Champs.

No Iniesta in the sticker album. Oops.

I'm sad that I will never hear a stadium full of vuvuzelas or people chanting EeeAMuMamaWaaay every single commercial break ever again. I really need to find a soccer team to root for now. I watched an MLS game this weekend and was not impressed. No team in Atlanta anyway. I need a team in a league that's good where I can actually watch a match every so often. Will someone please help me find a team?

Some Panini World Cup Singles

World Cup quarters start today so here's some stickers I got at Atlanta Sports Cards. You can get two packs of 8 stickers for $1.50 each or 20 loose stickers for $3. I chose quantity over randomness and picked out some shineys and my three favorite teams. First up:

Jabulani! Now we all know that all the weird goals and bungles scoring opportunity are not the ball's fault. The ball has nothing on all the blind, brain dead sociopathic referees out there. Do they get a sticker? Hell naw.

Here's Zakumi the precocious lion? cheetah? Jonas Brother? mascot. This critter is on just about every page of the album as he shows up in the team colors of the nation on that page. This one is in his official uniform (even though he's not holding the official ball) and is surrounded by holographic fireworks. Oh wait, LEOPARD. Spots. Aaaaahh, got it. Zakumi the leopard.

I have the other half of the South Africa logo and my OCD was driving me nuts until I found this half to past in the book.

The looks on these guys' faces pretty much sums up the performance of England 2010. Wayne played like Andy.

This confused the hell out of me. A couple of the stickers I picked up had blue backs. Panini parallels?? Who cares, they're stuck.

Notice how all three of my teams failed with various levels of spectacularness? The team that wasn't supposed to be any good actually did the best of all three. Time for me to find another team to root for. Maybe...

Packets from Pursuit

I'll keep adding packets as I rip 'em, scan 'em and stick 'em but the game is too good to leave right now.

Now that I'm watching the games I'm recognizing some o these characters. Heinze was all over the place during the Argentina - South Korea match. Papastathopoulos gave up the foul that let to Nigeria's only goal in their loss. Nigeria would have won that if not for a stupid red card.

Dang, Landon Donovan and Luis Fabiano in the same pack. I already had Landon so I've got some serious trade bait now. Donovan stickers are going for a buck a pop at the card shop.

I got Germany's goalie in this one. Are football goalies as collectable as hockey goalies? Probably not, they don't wear painted masks. The pointy haircut sported by Sulley must be popular, I've seen a bunch of stickers with the conehead cut.

Yay! Another American. I don't have that one. This was an Australia hot pack. Man, the Australia flag and the New Zealand flag sure do look alike. They were impossible to distinguish on the Virtual Album so I had to remember the Aussies wore yellow.

Hellas got their first World Cup goals and win this morning. Pasting the sticker in the album,  leaned that Ballack plays for Chelsea. I've actually heard of them. I need to pick a Premier league team to root for once the Cup is over. Any suggestions?

Woooo! Another Yank! Booooo! Already got him! Australia will be the first team i finish at this rate. Too bad they got massacred by Germany. David Villa is a kickass sticker. I picked Spain to win it all and David to score the most goals in Mark's World Cup contest. So how'd they do in their first game, anyway?

I am the jinxiest jinx to ever jink. No wonder Switzerland won, they cheated - they've got guys from Lichtenstein on their roster. At least I got the Paraguay shiny. I couldn't go 0-8 on shinies. And man those things are extra shiny this year aren't they! Time to finish sticking these suckers, I'll put up a trade post tonight.

I've had a Thorzulian dedication to posting the packages I've gotten in the mail recently, but a completely unexpected one came in a couple of days ago that I couldn't let pass.

I've been hunting down packets of Panini World Cup stickers like Caspar Gutman chasing down the Maltese Falcon and John sees boxes and boxes of 'em at every newsstand. He was kind enough to send 8 packs here to the colonial wilderness. Here's the first one:

I'm officially rooting for England now. Which means I probably put the curse of death on 'em but nothing can be done about that. Panini Stickers + Rik Mayall = I'm a fan of Bloody Ol' England. I haven't gotten any stickers from anyone in Sam's Club so don't give me any mess about how you're gonna get me. Here are the teams I'm rooting for the restof the tourney:

HAPPY WORLD CUP DAY

All righty, the World Cup is afoot! You know what that means! PANINI STICKERS!!! Let me show you all the Panini stickers I've found around town to open today!!!

Yep, just look at all of 'em. Isn't it great to live in the USA?

But fear not my friends! Go to FIFA.com and you can sign up for your very own Virtual Panini Sticker Album!

Yes, you have to register but it's reasonably painless. When you register you get a virtual album and three packets. There aren't as many stickers in the virtual album as in the real one, but it's still fun anyway. To open a packet you just click on it and drag across the top to 'rip' it.

Now you have five stickers to put in your New pile or your Swap pile. Stickers you don't have have a star on them wen you hover over them. Sort and open the next packet.

Rinse and repeat. Five more stickers!

Now you have 15 brand spanking new stickers. No shinies or specials though, those are hidden on the FIFA website or given as bonuses when you complete a team page. Note that the one with the star here is a dupe of the very first sticker I pulled. Since I haven't stuck anything into the album yet, it sees everything as new. Time to stick these puppies!

Click on My Album and then drag and drop stickers out of the pile onto your page. If you try to drop it onto the wrong slot the sticker will float back to your pile. When you hover over a sticker on the pile it will show the name and the flag of the country that player represents. You will learn all 32 flags for all the nations in this year's tournament really, really quick. This, I promise you.

One benefit the virtual album has over the real one is that you can click on the stickers you have to get stats.

Oh Noes! Out of packets! Don't worry, you get two or three a day automatically. You can also get bonus packets through a trivia game and by entering seekrit codes. These codes are not that secret at all and you can probably rip about thirty packs on your first day if you wish.

But what about that double I got? Panini packets are notorious for doubles everywhere. No sweat, just click on Swap Area and offer up a trade for that double.I'm asking for any player from ITALIA!!! for Mr. Gomez.

Unlike the Topps Million site PEOPLE ACTUALLY RESPOND TO TRADES! You'll get a notice when a trade goes through.

Open 'er up and get your sticker. Touch black, no trade back though. Once a trade goes through you're stuck with it. Heh. Stuck.

Put your new sticker in the album and create a new trade. You can have three trades pending at a time so it you have a pile of doubles you'll need to keep on top of that. After you get your album about 50% full, the swap game becomes very important.

You can also win a prize if you complete your album by a certain date. You have about as good odds as pulling a Strasburg Superfractor from a retail pack of Bowman, but the contest is there regardless.

Besides, collecting is its own reward... even if it is just online.
