The Rockies and Padres played twenty-two innings of baseball last night before Colorado won it on a Troy Tulowitzki double. No one scored at all until a bases loaded walk in the 14th gave the Rockies the lead. San Diego immediately loaded the bases in their half of the inning and Josh Bard tied it up on a single. Isn't that always how it happens? The visitors get the lead in extra innings and everyone's ready to go home and then the home team ties it up but doesn't just flat out win it and everyone keeps playing into the night.
The teams used 15 pitchers between them, and I'm sure the bullpens are praying for complete games tonight. Even though the starters went over seven innings each last night, These guys here are not impressed.
That's right, twenty-six innings! And the starters both pitched complete games! And nobody even ended up winning the game! They all had to go home and kiss their sisters! Now that's real manly baseball there, none of this middle reliever hullabaloo and set up men codswallop and newfangled closer flibbertigibbets these pampered starters get nowadays. Back then men were men and pitchers had sore arms bygum! I say force the starters tonight to pitch complete games and then make 'em pitch for another couple hours to fans who want to take some batting practice afterwards! Actually it's Dan Haren vs. Greg Maddux tonight in Arizona... They'd probably be all for doing that.
