ONCE PER COMC SPLURGE I QUIT BEING CHEAP AND GO AFTER A SUPER HIGH END EXPENSIVE CARD. WE HAVE REACHED THAT POINT IN OUR 2022 BLACK FRIDAY JOURNEY. BEHOLD: MY FIVE BUCKS AND A QUARTER VINTAGE ODDBALL PICKUP
1941 DOUBLE PLAY BUDDY HASSETT AND EUGENE MOORE
FIVE BUCKS MAY NOT SOUND VERY EXTRAVAGENT BUT THIS CARD TOOK OUT ONE-EIGHTH OF MY BUDGET. I COULD HAVE GOTTEN LIKE TWENTY CRAPPY NEW CARDS WITH THAT MONEY! BUT INSTEAD I GOT ONE VERY OLD CRAPPY CARD. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST 1941 DOUBLE PLAY CARD BUT IT IS MY FIRST 1941 DOUBLE PLAY CARD THAT IS STILL IN ONE PIECE. I'VE GOT EIGHT OTHER CHUNKS OF CARDS INCLUDING HALL OF FAMERS BOBBY DOERR AND LLOYD WANER BUT ALL HAVE BEEN SEPARATED. HASSETT AND MOORE WERE DECENT PLAYERS FOR SOME DISMAL BRAVES TEAMS THAT WERE ONLY NOTABLE FOR BEING MANAGED BY CASEY STENGEL. THIS CARD COMPLETES MY 1941 DOUBLE PLAY BRAVES TEAM SET AS I ALREADY HAD THE LLOYD WANER AND HANK MAJESKI CARD IN A SPLIT STATE. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE THE BOSTON BEES CARDS FROM THIS SET AS IT CAME OUT WHILE BOSTON WAS REBRANDING BACK TO THEIR PREVIOUS NAME. YOU CAN SEE THE BEES UNIFORM ON BUDDY HERE. THE TWO BEES CARDS INCLUDE SIBBI SISTI'S ROOKIE CARD SO THAT'S SOMETHING I NEED TO TRACK DOWN EVENTUALLYTHE BACKS OF THESE CARDS ARE ALREADY BLANK SO HAVING THE REMAINS OF A SCRAPBOOK ATTACHED TO THE CARD ISN'T REALLY A BIG DEAL. IT IS KIND OF INTERESTING THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE THE CORNER OF A SECOND CARD GLUED TO IT AS WELL. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE STORY BEHIND THAT? WAS A SECOND DOUBLE PLAY CARD STUCK TO THE BACK? DID SOMEONE HAVE AN OOPS WITH A GLUE GUN? IS THAT THE CORNER OF A TED WILLIAMS OR DIMAGGIO CARD OR IS IT JUST A CEREAL BOX? IF IT IS A CEREAL BOX IS IT A WHEATIES BOX WITH TED WILLIAMS ON IT? PART OF ME WANTS TO TRY TO STEAM THAT CORNER OFF TO FIND SOME ANSWERS. THANK GOODNESS I'M LAZY

Nice pickup. I never think to add these and they're fairly cheap considering.
I'm saying gluing mishap on the cardboard corner. Gluing technology was backwards even when I was a kid, I can't imagine what it was like in the '40s with all the glue rationing going on.
Those are cool, but the one I really want is way out of reach. I have one with Charlie Keller, a local star with the Yankees. He's got another one, but it also features this other guy...named DiMaggio....dangit!
