Live blogging:

I'll try to comment here as I can, but I've got a lot of tracking and scanning and posting to do.

Also, I'll try to post cards of a player from the particular state, but some will have alternates (like Idaho, I couldn't find any red or blue Score cards of players from Idaho)

Early results from Indiana has Obama at 51%. Kentucky is 2 to 1 for McCain.

Polls are closed in five states. Two states have been called: Kentucky for McCain, Vermont for Obama.

Indiana is still neck & neck. Indiana is usually deep red, but it's a neighbor to Obama's home state.

Polls just closed n North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia. Don't expect any to be called for a while now, especially in the bigger states.

Thorzul has the right attitude about this whole situation.

A whole truckload of polls just closed and many states were insta-called. I'm gonna get scanning.

McCain spent tons of time and money in Pennsylvania and the AP called it for Obama in about five seconds.

Three Senate results: Warner (D) wins Virginia, Shaheen (D) wins New Hampshire, Hagen (D) wins North Carolina. Three pickups for the Dems. Joe Biden also has a job no matter what happens, he just got re-elected.

All the polls in Ohio are finally closed, so there should be results rolling in soon.

You still have a few minutes to guess who I voted for today up in the poll. Here's a hint: I have voted for all three candidates for President on Georgia's ballot at one point or another.

Georgia called for McCain almost 2 hours later than it was called for Bush in 2004.

Gellman makes a prediction.

The next wave of poll closings just hit. No surprises yet.

A Candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win, but keep in mind that California is going Blue unless The Big One hits and it sinks into the ocean in the next two hours. That effectively means that Obama's Magic Number is 215.

Ohio and New Mexico, two Bush states, just flipped to Obama.

McCain pretty much has to steal a blue state to win. Ohio is a back breaker. Dems also pick up a 4th senate seat in New Mexico.

Then again, J-Roll could come from behind and win.

West Virginia - the state where all those racist voter shock videos came from - is finally called for McCain well over 2 hours after the polls closed.

I'm bummed because I couldn't find a John Kruk card with a red border.

Whammo, there goes Texas. Nice chunk of safe EVs for McCain. He needs a takeaway though.

Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri and Indiana are all still toss ups.

Utah stays Red, Iowa goes Blue. Another lost state for McCain. the Fat Lady's warming up.

Meanwhile there is a critical vote underway in Wisconsin.

Polls are reportedly still open in St. Louis due to heavy turnout.

Chris Shayes loses his house set, there are no Republican congressmen left in New England.

FiveThirtyEight.com calls it for Obama.

Not much going on right now. Heartbreaking has some predictions. Joe Collector has some porn.

A couple more safe red states are called. West coast polls are about to close.

California, Oregon, Washington go to Obama. Game over.

Ladies and Gentleman, the 44th President of the United States:

Virginia flips blue, Obama is now piling on. Colorado too.

Republicans have 40 Senate seats in hand, and lead in others. No Supermajority in the Senate.

Florida goes Blue and no one gives a shit.

Classy concession speech by McCain. That's the guy I voted for in 2000.

Nevada flips Blue. Remaining states to be called: North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Montana and Alaska (polls still open).

Obama Making his acceptance speech now. Go watch.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Alaska goes for McCain.

My own state still hasn't managed to count all the votes and a Senate runoff hangs in the balance.

Ballot propositions were all all over the map, literally and figuratively. To sum up: people like abortion, don't like gay marriage. Go figure.

Alaska elected a convicted felon.

Sara Palin: God will do "the right thing for America" on election day. I agree wholeheartedly.

Package from Steve

As I said yesterday, out of the blue a package shows up from Steve of White Sox Cards. Steve is on my short list of "People I just send random crap two when the mood strikes me" with Mario and Lucy, so not a big surprise to see stuff coming back, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless. Since Steve always (and I mean always) lists out every card he receives in the mail, I'm going to do the same.

I have no idea what this card is doing in here, unless it's a "He's from Georgia, he must like NASCAR" kind of thing. I dunno, I just never got into it. I used to like Indy Car racing before they screwed it up, but that's another story. The card looks good though and I got a kick out of Eet and Ern on Terry's race suit. I have no idea how I knew what the names of those two characters were.

That Kotchman card is Bee-You-Tee-Fool. I'm surprised by some of the players selected for U&H, I guess Topps is saving rookies like Charlie Morton for the 2009 release. Expect to see a Charlie Morton signature in every single product until June if that's the case. That Smoltz card showcases his last good start before the shoulder blew up. Hopefully he'll get a chance to take the hill at least one more time.

All of these cards are awesome in their own ways, but it would take forever to scan all of them so I'll just just sum then up. Javy - '93 Upper Deck is the best set they will ever produce. Vinicio seriously looks like he's 14 on this card. Big head tattoo of 'Druw will never be attatched to my skin. Roberto slides at Eddie Taubensee in a close play at the plate. Andruw looks like the Great Pumpkin in his WBC Netherlands Jersey.

6:59 am - got in car
7:05 am - arrived at polling place, no parking
7:06 am - parked at the office building across the street and hoped no one cared
7:10 am - arrived at the end of a very long line
7:11 am - regretted not digging for an old magazine or comic in the trunk of my car
7:15 am - started looking through the games I could download on my phone
7:16 am - was glad I grabbed a sweater before leaving the house
7:23 am - got bored looking through games I didn't want to download
7:25 am - decided to play the free Demo of Tetris on my phone
7:26am - found out that 'silent' mode when playing games means play the music at twice the normal level
7:26:01 am - turned off the phone
7:33 am - ladies came by with coffee and snacks that I didn't take
7:41 am - chuckled a bit at the guy in front of me wearing shorts and a polo
7:42 am - realized he is warm and toasty because he is easily 50 lbs heavier than me and I ain't light
7:44 am - got a sample ballot to look over
7:45 am - realized I had no clue which school board member my wife wanted me to vote for
7:49 am - passed a clipboard and pen stuck in the bushes because no one knew what to do with it
7:53 am - wife calls and is appalled that I haven't gotten through the line already
7:53:30 am - wife waffles on going to vote this morning or wait till the evening
7:54 am - informed my wife that she will be voting this morning
7:55 am - realized I forgot to ask her about the school board member
7:55:01 am - decided voting against the incumbent is the safest move
7:57 am - got close enough to the entrance to count the number of people ahead of me and subtract the people coming out of the building to estimate how much longer it would take
8:01 am - lady handed out ballot slips, no pens
8:02 am - saw another clipboard and pen sitting on a trash can
8:02:30 am - too chicken to get out of line to go get it
8:05 am - nice lady handed me the clipboard, I filled out ballot slip
8:06 am - I am directly in the middle of the walkway between the exit and back parking lot
8:06:01-8:11 am - people run me over getting to the back parking lot
8:12 am - I'm almost in the building!
8:13 am - I'm in the building!
8:14 am - feel really bad as the kid 6 people ahead of me in line is told that his polling place is at a different location
8:16 am - handed my ballot slip to the nice lady who has been a poll worker every single time since I moved here 10 years ago

8:19 am - chose the ballot machine next to the guy wearing shorts

8:20 am - VOTED FOR THE 44TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Card Of the Week 11/04/08

If I get this posted quick enough I can coincide it with the first votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. (rats, missed it) The subject of this week's COTW is obvious considering what's going on today.

Now anyone who has followed this blog knows I love the HELL out of the Upper Deck Presidential Predictors set. I love it so much I banned the company from the site for a month when they pulled the Hillary/Morganna pulled card/short print shenanigans. While I liked the original set I really liked the Series 2 set. Why? FIGHTS!!!!

Each of the 5 cards in the set (10 with the Hillary variations) depicted a famous baseball fight with the candidates in place of the brawling ballplayers. Here are the five, with corresponding real life girly slapfight.

PP-10 - Barrett vs. Pierzynski

Note the most egrigious example of the rewriting of history here since Greedo shot first. Barrett popped Pierzynski! Not the other way around! Mickeyfickey deserved it from all acounts too...

PP-11 - Varitek vs. A-Rod

I've always liked Varitek since he went to school at Georgia tech, but this image here ensures I'll be a fan forever.

PP-12 - Piniella vs. Ump

This is from his freakout against the Braves. You'll never catch Bobby in ejections Lou, so quit being a baby!

PP-14 Piazza vs. Clemens

Here's the biggie, the World Series moment between roid raging Clemens and Mike Piazza. The Hillary version of this card is my favorite, I absolutely adore the innocent "Who, ME!?!" look on her face.

None of these are the Card of the Week though. That honor goes to card PP-13, this one here:

A big ol' scrum between the Red Sox and Yankees. And it's in black & white too, so it's got to be from a long time ago back when the world was black & white. I'd love to tell you what game this fight was from, but problem is, I don't know. I've looked everywhere for a similar fight between Yankees and Red Sox players but they've been fighting for a long time now. Is it Powell vs. Cronin? Fisk vs. Piniella? Pepitone vs. Petrocelli? Fisk vs. Munson? (Fisk gets in a lot of fights, apparently) Or is it simply the timeless battle of Good vs. Evil? Many would say when talking about The Red Sox & Yankees or Democrats vs. Republicans it's a case of Evil vs. Evil, but that's neither here nor there. At any rate, this is a nice card of a crawling, scratching, shoving baseball sissy fight and it's a pretty good metaphor for the grueling Presidential campaign WHICH IS NOW THANKFULLY MERCIFULLY OVER. We can finally all have panic attacks about other things now. Upper Deck got the back right too:

IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!!!

Hopefully the credit crunch doesn't completely bork the entire economy no matter which one of these jokers gets into office or we'll all be burning our cards for heat this winter. I'd never burn this card though. Everyone knows Upper Deck is good eatin' cards. Lots of fiber in them suckers.

Epic Mailday

Always on Monday. I go to the mailbox all week long and nothing, then on Monday the postman can't close the door it's so stuffed. I got four packages in the mail today, all from fellow bloggers. Here's a sneak preview of all four.

First up is a package of stuff from Heartbreaking Cards of Staggering Genius. I sent him that Bo Jackson graded card from that repack box and a bunch of stuff off his want lists. In return I got a bunch of Holy F%$&ing $#!& good cards. I'm talking mega-awesome. I also got this Finest autograph of Rich Thompson I won in a contest.


Up next a short and sweet trade with Thorzul. He had a couple of Goudey SP's I needed, I had a couple of Heritage cards he needed. Thorzul was kind enough to throw in this Brian McCann SP Authentic with Mecha damage as well.


Third package was from Capewood's Collections. This is kind of a strange trade, basically Dinged Corners posted a weird Jeff Kent Fairfield Monstrocity and when all was said and done I ended up with a package from Capewood. The story is too long to tell now, but let's just say this package is all about the Chippers.

Finally I got a package out of nowhere from Steve at White Sox Cards. I sent him some stuff out of the blue a while back so why not? Instead of a card here is a cartoon Steve sent:

Well, I would hope the cards were set aside before I obtained them because otherwise Steve snuck in my house and snagged a few of my cards to send me. I saw no cards I had already in this package other than some old Hoops cards (everyone sends me hoops), so Steve, ya done good. Better than you know. That White Sox pile I have put aside just got a little fatter too.

2009 Upper Deck

It's been all over the interwebs by now, but hey, I got stuff to do.

The 2009 Upper Deck design has been leaked.

So what do I got to add to the party?

Well, I like the design. It's a good combination of full bleed borders and just enough of a design element to anchor the card. I'm generally a fan of retro issues, and I'm glad the '75 O-Pee-Chee inserts look more like the actual 1975 cards then they do Upper Deck's 2001 '70s Decade set. The other inserts look decent, but the past few years Upper Deck seems to have put a bigger focus on the base cards, which is a good thing. All in all, I'm looking forward to this set.

I also have one thing to say to Topps. I really hope that your 2009 issue is going to put more emphasis to the cards and the base set, because otherwise Upper Deck is gonna clean your clock. They already have hands down the best base set of 2008 and while one year is a fluke, two years is a trend. Please don't make the foundation of your 2009 set a bunch of fake prospect cards, flipped cards, photoshopped cards, rodent cards, prognostication cards, and other assorted detritus. If you do, this collector might be focusing all his energy on building a set of Upper Deck in 2009 and waiting for one of the dozen or two Topps factory sets to come out later in the year.

Pimpin' the Blogs... Pimpin the Blogs...

I've got a whole bunch of blogs to pimp today. It's a combination of new stuff I've found, a couple of friends who took the plunge, some stuff I'm not sure if I've pimped before, and some people who begged for the pimpin'.

Before I do any pimpin' however, I need some help from my dear readers.

Last week, I found a cool blog I'd never seen before dedicated to someone's collection of cards with the number 5. Every card was number 5 - not serial numbered, mind you - just was number 5 in the set. There was a really slick Frank Robinson oddball card as the top post when I found it. I was lazy and waited to link it in my blogroll, and then...........

Computer crashed.

Blog go poof.

I can't find the damn thing again for nothin.

If anyone knows what blog this is I'm talking about please post the link in the comments. I want to read this thing and I promise I'll link right away from now on if I can just find this blog again. And now back to your regularly scheduled pimpin'.

Ok, first up, I have to discuss two particular answers:

Ok, so these two won hands down on both polls. Why am I not following the Voice of the People then? These two options had to win by 50% or more, that's why. My polls, my blogs, my rules. Basically it was a decision between "do something" and "don't do anything" on Junkie, and "kill it" or "keep it" on Auto-matic. "don't do anything" and "kill it" both got under 50% of the vote so they lose. Which is fine with me, so let's move on and figure out what I'm actually going to do with these beasts.

On the Junkie poll, "Slideshow of card images" won with 33%. Slideshow has now been added. If anyone notices a significant slowdown on loading the page let me know. I'm currently showing off the oldest album in my Picasa account, which were from my very first posts on the blog. I'll swap 'em around every so often.

Ok, next three options in order:

These all got a good amount of votes. If you'll notice, the Follow This Blog feature has been added. Why that one? Well I get a vote too! Besides, I like having a Posse just like Andre the Giant. I'm stopping at two changes right now, if they go smoothly, I might add the others later. If you want them added sooner, complain at me and I'll see what I can do. Videos, Labels, Newsreels and AdSense got tepid support so they're out.

Ok, now for Auto-matic for the People. Kill the blog failed 23-17. The top two responses were add relic cards, and add writers. Since I did get some interest from people wanting to write for the blog, I'm going to open it up and see if anyone takes me up on the offer. If no one bites, I can fold in some relic cards to spice things up. If you are interested in writing about autograph cards for Auto-matic for the People, e-mail me at dayf13 at gmail dot com. I'll get back to you with the ground rules and if you're cool with them, I'll add you as an author. I'm looking for A Pack A Day type of thing, just with autographs. We'll see how it works out.

Finally, you'll notice I have a new poll up there. This is just for fun and to satisfy my curiosity. I have been desperately trying to keep partisan politics to a minimum on this blog and I'm not too sure I succeeded. So, with less than 48 hours before the election, I'd like to know...

Who, dear readers, do you think I will be voting for first thing Tuesday morning? Not who you want to win, not who the polls say will win, who you think I will personally be voting for based on my various biases and tells on this blog. Some may have figured it out from my comments, e-mails and other blogs, but I'm still curious. I've got something fun in store for Tuesday night so the 'no politics' guideline will be out the window for at least one day anyway. Go ahead and vote in the poll and vote for real! I Was Wrong

Totally, utterly, completely, absolutely, ridiculously wrong.

Matt Ryan was a damn good draft pick and I feel like a dumbass for missing the entire offseason and the first third of the season pouting because they didn't pick Glenn Dorsey. Even my thought that the defense would suck without an impact lineman was wrong, wrong, wrong as the Falcons shut out the Raiders today. Ok, so it was the Raiders, but you don't shut teams out on their home turf. That shouldn't happen. So basically despite my two fantasy football league championships, I am a terrible judge of NFL talent and no one should ever, ever hire me to be their GM. Not even the Lions. Even worse is I was all on board with the Dimitroff and Smith hirings and I didn't give them the benefit of the doubt. Man, am I stupid.

Arthur Blank still sucks though. I was right about that. I can't watch the 4th quarter of games on TV anymore. Boooo Arthur! Get the hell off the sidelines!

He played for the Steelers, so that's good. Steel beats Gators right? Drop a big ol' chunk of molten steel on their heads and whammo - instant fried gator.

I got cold beer, Tabasco-flavored peanuts in the shell, burgers and dogs and I'm ready for to see a new Lindsey Scott moment as the Bulldogs win the SEC East today.
