The Atlanta Braves' all time record coming into the 2011 season stands at 9945 wins, 9954 losses and 154 ties. Unless the Braves have either the best season of all time or one of the worst, they will win their 10,000th game and lose their 10,000th game this season. In fact, if the team starts off 54-45 this year, their July 22nd game at Cincinnati will be either their 10,000th win or loss depending on the result that night.
This means absolutely nothing, but it's one of those nifty things to think about going into the season.

"Sounds like Atlanta's got a discipline problem"
"Maybe that's why we beat them at baseball nearly half the time, huh?"
That would be pretty cool if they got to both milestones this season. They'd even have enough games left to pull off the 46 ties they would need to get to 200 ties.
thats a pretty incredible stat really...for one, thats a crapload of games. does hitting both marks in one season show just how cyclic things are in regards to winning and losing? looks like it all works out in the end,.500
The fact that there have been that many games and that we've kept track of them is one of the reasons we love baseball.
Dodgers have a career .524 won-loss mark. Will reach 19,500 wins this season.
... er, make that 19,500 games. Passed 10,000 wins a couple years ago.
Most people don't look at or care about the franchise W/L, but it's always been one of my favorite numbers to look at.
I guess that's why it bothers me when people (mainly in other sports) talk about how it's better to tank for the draft picks late in the season or how games don't matter in September once a team is eliminated. They do matter, especially if you care about the franchise W/L.
Thanks for that nugget of history...
You can thank the 1890's Beaneaters and Frank Seele. When the PL and AA collapsed, they gobbled up the Boston clubs and became the 'clean' alternative to the Orioles 'dirty' ball in the 1890's. Selee won five pennants and had a W-L record of 1004-649 in his career in Boston.
And then you can also thank most of the Boston Braves squads from 1903 to 1948 for getting to 10,000 losses (except the Miracle Braves, of course).
