It's all over

No more baseball for five months.

Yeah I know, playoffs.

Playoffs schmayoffs, I don't like any of the teams that made it. I'm basically rooting against the Yankees at this point which means they'll sweep every series.

And the damn Braves gave me hope, the dirty bums.

Way back here, I had given up on them after getting spanked in some series they should have won. After I posted that they go on a tear.

So then earlier this week, I show the slightest glimmer of excitement and... WHAMMMO 0-6. Swept by the Nats at home. argh

HOWEVER. It ain't so bad. The have a good core of players going into next season. The starting rotation is solid and they can survive a couple of arms blowing out. McCann, Prado, Escobar and McLouth is pretty decent group up the middle. Heyward is a beast and might be a starter by the 2010 All-Star game. So, it ain't so bad. I just need to somehow make it through the next five months.

In the spirit of thinking positive, here are five things I found online today that made me happy.

This blog might be the best thing I've seen all year. I could spend days going through the archives. There is the occasional picture of a girl in a bikini, a pulp cover or Clint Eastwood beefcake, so be mindful of that if you look at it at work and your boss is a fink.

Anyone know what this is? At first glance I thought it was a blogspammer leeching our posts to make ad revenue, but I don't see a single ad on the site. I saw a link to my site on there and became filled with sinful pride. It felt good.

Scariest Movies of All Time

At least I have something to keep my mind off my troubles through the end of the month. It's October! That means scary movie time! You know, I've never seen Lost Highway. Or Mulholland Drive for that matter. Maybe it's time to have me a Lynch-O-Thon. What skeery movie will you be watching this All-Hallow's Eve?

Allen & Ginter blog post clearinghouse - day 1

I don't have a lot of time to post right now so instead, I'll pick out some of the posts on other blogs about A&G that caught my eye.

The first pack I actually saw ripped was on A Pack to be Named Later. Not a bad pack either.

Now this is how a gimmick card is supposed to be done. Fun and silly, and doesn't screw up the set at all.

Card Cache (who I need to link when I get a minute) shows off another neat gimmick plus a few of the interesting A&G inserts that have popped up so far.

JD's Wild Cardz is trying to get together images of all the Ginter Code Parallel cards so there's a chance someone can actually solve the thing.

There's a strange illness going around, a few people have been stricken.

Beckett has a gallery of some of the tougher autographs from the set.

And finally, Gint-a-Cuffs is under way!

This is another attempt by Red Sox Nation to try to keep up with all the Royals fan blogs out there. It's a good addition to the Blogocube and I like to see a blog that posts cards of all sorts of sports. I also feel good that I'm not the only one out there who calculates the cost of their cards. Don't worry there's good ol' fashioned pack rips on there too.

Mariners fan who likes to bust all kinds of stuff. This post here attracted my attention not only for the Falcons auto, but because I hadn't seen the Ichiro Heritage card yet. I C H I R O makes a lot more sense than A R A M I S.

Autograph Alert

Everything you could possibly ever want to know about shady autographs. Check out the most recent breaking story about facsimile Abraham Lincoln autographs cut off of original Civil War Service Certificates and sold as real. That way both a replica autograph is pawned off as real AND an actual historically significant artifact is destroyed. Actually, don't read it if you ever want to enjoy the latest "epic hit" cut auto out of a new product. I wish there was an RSS feed to link to to keep me updated.

And finally, for all fans of bad comics: The awful, unfunny and utterly depressing Crankshaft is in the middle of a baseball themed storyline. Crankshaft is trying to discourage a young player from using steroids by arguing that cheating in baseball is actually a communist plot. No fooling. I think we need to haul Gaylord Perry up in front of the House Un-American Activity Committee.
