Best Group Break Ever

David over at Tribe Cards did a low-end group box break of Allen & Ginter. The deal: for five bucks, you claim a team. When the box is broke, you get all the cards from that team. All the cards from unclaimed teams and non-sports stuff get doled out to everyone randomly based on a randomized list. It ended up turning out pretty damn cool! Sort of like a fantasy draft and a box break all in one. For a little more than the price of a hobby pack I got this lineup:

Derek Lowe
Jordan Zimmerman RC
Chipper Jones
Jack Cust heiroglyphics border thing (that's a Ginter code card parallel, David...)

Biggest Hoaxes Idaho mini
Chipper Jones Nat'l Pride
Red Moore (negro league star)
Joakim Soria
Tim Hudson
Jair Jurrjens
Jeff Francoeur
Crack-the-code crummy ad card
Kenshin Kawakami RC

Ok, so the Code ad was sort of a booby prize, but the Idaho hoax card more then makes up for it. Still, that's essentially a jumbo pack right there with about half the Braves team set! Can't beat that with a stick. David mentioned he wants to do more of these, so make sure you keep an eye out on his blog. Even if you don't get the exact team you want it's still a heck of a good deal!

Yeah, David's break was great. Everything that guy does is great. Most generous blogger out there by far.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't THAT impressed with what you got until I saw the Jeff Franceour card. You probably "won" the break with that guy.

You did pretty well. 13 cards. And the folks who got relics really did well.

I did OK. Nine cards (including one crack the code card). Not as good as others, but I'll be there again! It was fun.

These hoax cards are pretty weird. It's not clear that the Idaho name is even a hoax and if it is, I'm not sure it's terribly meaningful.

There's also the question of Bigfoot, or whatever he's called on his Vomit & Ginter card. While the famous Bigfoot video is clearly a hoax, there's significant scientific evidence to suggest that there is a pretty rare species of animal not yet known to humankind that is responsible for the various sightings. The same is true for the Loch Ness Monster. My point is just that despite being a massive skeptic, I'm not sure that these cases have been clearly demonstrated to be hoaxes.

Yes ,that was fun. I was involved in a similar break, with Walmart Black Topps Series 1,over at Grand Cards.http://grandcards.blogspot.com/. It's great for team collectors, plus you get some trade bait.
