What's up with the Braves announcers saying that Hudson wants to tough it out through the end of the year? That just sounds like a bad idea. At best he contributes positively to a team that is going to struggle to stay in the playoff race, and at worst, well... if he puts off inevitable Tommy John surgery then he doesn't come back until 2010 instead of August 2009, right?
From what I've read on the beat writers' blog, three doctors have told him the ligament is torn and it needs surgery but Tim refuses to accept it. The whole thing has thrown him for a loop pretty badly. He's going to take a week to think about it, but I can't see how it could get any better. The big problem is next year is the last guaranteed year on the contract, with an option for 2010 that probably won't get picked up if he misses all of next year. So that puts a lot of financial pressure on Tim to keep pitching to go along with him not wanting to believe that he's really hurt. The whole situation just sucks for everyone.

That's not any worse than the Tex deal. You cannot be happy with Kotchman. I assume the Braves knew they couldn't keep Teixeira, but still.
Trading Hudson for Tommy John seems a little odd. Tommy John is way old. Just kidding!
METS!
