So Long, Lou

This wasn't the way Lou was supposed to go out.

Baseball's a funny game, I guess. Enjoy your retirement Lou, and spend some good time with your mom.

I kick a hat in your honor.

Lou was just taking up space and cashing a paycheck. Most of us Chicago folks thought that Pinella retired WHEN he took the job with the Cubs.

I disagree with Sal. Lou was great. I'm really going to miss him. Quote from Lou after yesterday's 16-5 loss, "Today was a day to remember --- and a day to forget." Godspeed Lou.

Lou was good before this year. He got the Cubs to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in DECADES. But there's only so much you can do with a team that doesn't give a s*** like this year's bunch. I dunno, maybe Lou wore on them like he sorta did with me, but as much as change is needed and the fact that I wasn't big on Lou to start with, I can't overlook the good he managed to do. He took two talented teams that proved to not have much heart and made them look like contenders, and finished his tenure with a winning record overall.

Anyway, Sal was probably right that Lou was just going through the motions like everyone else on the Cubs this year, but Hack's right too. Sweet Lou left me with some good memories and overall his run has to go down as a success. The success that he had did destroy the losing culture around the Cubs for me at least. I'm not happy about things, there's no woe is us, no feeling of hopelessness or quiet acceptance of this year's failure. I'm pissed off and I want a winner dammit! And I think I can trace that to certain points in Lou's time here.
